#1 Pick.....other than AROD??

I just found out I have the #1 pick tomorrow for a 12 teamer. I don't want it, what-so-ever!

Being that I hate the Yankees AND I feel Arod rejoins the mortals, why would I want to draft him??

Would anyone else take another player #1 in a 12 teamer? Wright??

To be honest, I think I could draft Johan #1 and still win the league.

Who is the one player that can challenge AROD's #1 status, minus Pujols?

I agree Hanley- but like you said you can win any league with any strategy so maybe go Mike Napoli there just for sh!ts and grins.

If I hadn't seen Hanley "throw out" his shoulder on more than one occasion, I would gladly draft him.....that injury is very scary though.

Still undecided......especially when I had to wade through all of the responses.

In 2006 they were neck and neck. If you track many MVP's over the years there is almost always a fairly large regression. Hard to repeat huge years when people expect it I guess.

How many back to back Mvp's were there? Very few. Joe Morgan comes to mind.

Expect Cabrera and A-rod to be very close in production this year. I'm sure A-rod outhomers him by around 10+, but Miguel's batting average may be 25 points better and their rbi's/runs should be similar.

I think Miguel's superstardom shines through this year. I think he could take over as best young hitter in baseball.

I would go with your original gut feel. If I could not swallow my pride and take A-Rod, I would go with Wright (now that there are questions about Pujols elbow).

Patrick, sorry but I don't see your personal anti-Yankee feelings being enough of a reason to not draft the Only consensus #1 pick. There IS a reason that not one of the other first round players approaches ARod - they just won't produce as much.

If you absolutely "can't" draft him then I would suggest drafting Johan and going a different direction (it is easier to catch up in offense in a 12 teamer). But that would probably be closely followed by a suggestion that you think about drafting "the stats" and not the player uniform :D

I hate the Yankees too, so what. Give me Arod. I would've taken him last year as #2. Yes like most I had Pujols #1. If his 2006 season is as bad as it gets that's not too bad. Who else in this pool can say that. If you absolutly can't take him I must agree and go Hanly and hope the shoulder is fixed. When haney hesitated and took his full time to take Arod last year I reaaly thought I might get lucky and get Arod at #8. Haney was too smart for that and hesitiated for other reasons (looking how this would affect the rest of his plan since he didn't expect Arod to fall to 7). I expect a drop off in his #'s. He's still #1.

MR Hook said it best,Arod is the only true number one.MY KDS is set for 1 9 10 11 12 13 14 8 7 15 6 5 4 3 2 . You could take 8 different guys 2nd , if you cant get the number 1 pick i would rather be latter in the draft. my opinion

I drafted Martin and Ichiro with my next 2 picks, also setting off some "fireworks" due to my lack of HR's...through 3 rounds  I had to ask the other owners if we were only counting stats through 3 rounds??

My boy Shields was taken from me  .

BTW, Crazy, Cabrera fell to 14!

So who did you pick up for power in the later rounds, Patrick?

I'll be honest, it was a pain in the butt drafting in a 12 team league. I've been prepping for the NFBC for months and a 25 teamer as well.....I found out about this 12 team draft 2 nights before. It was harder deciding who to draft with the abundance of good players constantly available. I was a little "worried" about my team in the beginning, but as the draft went along, I could see many owners had a hard time building their team......most owners look competant at least through 4-5 rounds.

Should be a fun league....it's being hosted by a lovable "expert".....can't wait to hear my Santana picked ripped in his podcast.

[/QUOTE]Maybe you could have ended up with Cabrera/Johan combo. But I see that's not what you're trying to do.

How many wins do you project Shields to have? 15?

Can't get too excited about that although nice peripherals.

Crazy, 2 things: #1 - AROD could hit about 20 more homers than Miggy. #2 - AROD steals bases. 24 last year. He's head and shoulders above Miggy in my mind. Only guy I'd take #1 aside from AROD is Hanley. Doesn't sound like his surgery should affect him too much since he played through the injury for part of the season and he just got surgery to correct the problem.

I don't think I'd feel bad about drafting Rollins #1 overall. He's not coming back in the 2nd round like last season...you add an RBI machine in the 2nd and you look very good.
