NFBC Message Boards

First let me introduce myself as this is my first year into the NFBC. I've been wanting to play in this league for a few years but never quite had the funds to do so. As luck would have it, my buddy and I have pooled funds together and we're going to be in the Vegas event this year and I'm very excited to be involved.



I have a few, hopefully simple, questions that may be a bit amateurish but I honestly couldn't find them elsewhere on the website and figured this would be the best place to ask rather than bother Greg or Tom.



#1) When do we know who we are playing against and how is that figured out? Is this completely randomly generated and if so, out of sheer curiosity only, how does Greg/Tom or whoever do it?



#2) From reading other posts, it appears the draft position is ascertained once all 390 members are signed up and paid. This could happen on the last day or in two days from now. I get putting in my KDS information as soon as possible, but what then happens for us to find out this information?



#3) Lastly, I get the league is full at 390 teams but I did read in the rules section that NFBC has the right to expand it by a few leagues; which is just fine. If it does in fact get expanded, does it change the prize payout scale at all? In the purest form, beating out 420 some odd guys is certainly more difficult to do than beating out 389. Not that I won't have that much of a problem doing either, but you catch my drift.

#1) The leagues are random. I'm not sure of the mechanism used by Greg to determine the randomness(?).



#2) Greg and Tom will have a cutoff date for signups. As far as I know the contest could go with less than their desired number of participants(maybe 375, maybe 360). As far as draft spots, I always found mine posted here on the message board. I'm not sure if they are posted elsewhere. Greg and Tom give ample time for participants to study their draft spots.

Welcome aboard Jon. My guess is that we'll get draft picks a week before the main event.



If greg goes to 405 teams he'll add 75% back to the overall prize schedule.

You'll find out who you are playing against as well as what draft pick you have right after Greg closes sign ups. As you know he's shooting for 390, but this is a variable #. It depends on when we get there (we're running ahead of schedule I believe) and he wants nice even 15's in each city which could cause him to keep sign ups open in a city to do so for a while. Welcome aboard. I think you'll have lots of fun both at the draft and throughout the season. As was said you can expect to find this out sometime around March 8. Greg says to have your kds's done by March 5 just in case. He'll post if things change. Good luck and good drafting.

1. Once all of the spots are filled, we'll separate the names by city and then put those in a computer program that randomly spits them out 1 through whatever number. So let's say we get 135 teams in Las Vegas, the computer will jumble all the names and then spit them out 1-135. We'll break them off 1-15, 16-30, etc., until we have 9 leagues with draft orders of 1-15. We'll then go into each owner's KDS preferences and seed everyone and then announce the draft order for each city.



2. Once we know when we'll likely sell out, we'll e-mail everyone to finalize your KDS picks. Right now I'm telling everyone to do that by March 5th. It won't be sooner than that, I'm sure of that.



3. If we go over 390, we'll add 75% of the additional entry fees to the overall prize pool. Last year we shot for 360 teams and finished at 375 and used the additional money to increase third place league prizes from $1,000 per team to $1,250. This year we'll increase 3rd through 11th overall with the additional money and after that we will begin increasing the grand prize. I'd like to be at $125,000 next year or the year after.



When we announce the draft picks, we'll first do it on the Message Boards and have fun with it. I'll let everyone know via e-mail what time we'll announce them and we'll slowly go league by league and city by city. It will be fun, take about an hour and bring us all on the boards together. I'm looking forward to that as Tom and I will get some beer, run the KDS preferences and then tease you with the draft orders!!

That sounds pretty cool Greg. As a newbie myself, I'm looking forward to the whole process!! Viva Las Vegas!!

The other part of the process that Greg left out is that we all get to harass him on the message boards during that final week to get those slots announced as soon as possible.



Meanwhile, he'll throw out some trivial excuses to delay our pleasure - stuff like having to charging everyone's credit cards first, having the right number in each city, getting his "Tom Selleck" trimmed for the big event and Kessenich having a big Friday night date.

I think you should just announce now that you'll raise GP to $125,000 if you get to 420



And then watch the entries pour in.

I am really looking forward to this event. Does anybody ever get together prior to the event to hang out, discuss some baseball, maybe do some mock drafts, or hit some clubs?



I'll be coming into town on Thursday the 13th, will be staying at Ceasars Palace on the 14th and 15th which is right across the street from the event. Though my co-manager and I plan to definately get some studying done in that time frame, I think I can speak for the both of us that we wouldn't mind getting to personally know some of the other players. Believe it or not, there are actually a few other things to do in Vegas other than draft!

1) cup sizes

2) daily doubles and even trifectas

3) UFS blowing up at a poker table

4) number of $1 bills that can ............

5) odds to win almost anything, but especially NCAA hoops tourney and early World Series lines

Meanwhile, in NYC we will walk uphill from our dingy hotel rooms in the sleet and snow to the draft. At the end of the draft we will walk back uphill in the sleet and snow to our dingy hotel room. There may be some girls, but nobody can tell because we are wearing so many layers of clothes.

60 degrees in beautiful NYC today. So much for layers....

I am also looking forward to this year. Although I played last year, I was quickly relocated the the UK and spent all six months in England. ARRGGGGGG I might be the first to play a full year in another country. I don't suggest it. LOL This year my plans are to stay in the states and compete.
