Just wondering if anyone lives or has lived in N.C.??



The reason why I ask is.....last week as we were traveling back to Florida, from Ohio, we were "patiently" following a state patrol car for miles....all of the sudden he decided to actually drive and took off from the traffic, a couple miles later, the statie proceeds to speed up to get in front of a car, the next thing we see is the statie swerve over in front of the car and slam on his breaks....he damn near caused the car to crash into the back of him, which almost caused the entire interstate to have a HUGE pileup.



We were driving on a 4 lane hwy and the car was traveling in the left lane.....the car attempted to get in the next lane, the statie FLEW in front of him again...and again, the car almost hit him, as well as the many cars behind...all of us had to slam on our breaks.



Now I ask, is this normal?? Does anyone live in a state where this is the norm, the officers pull in front of the cars they want to stop?? I've never seen anything like this. The statie didn't even turn his lights on...it was almost as if he was wanting the car to hit him. It seriously almost caused a huge pileup.



Has anyone else experienced or seen anything like this?

All I know is: they bagged me for 85 on my way to Florida and 85 on my way home. It was a quick $300 in 1986!!

I live in Raleigh. The rules are based on the license plates. If you live north of Va. watch out!

BTW, I spent a week in Cary for business. If one is young and single....whew, what a place to live. I've never seen so many attractive females in such a small area..due to all the colleges there....what is there, like 20 within a 20 mile radius?

Glad I didn't get a ticket THIS time...we drove almost 1,000 miles in 14.5 total hours ...this was done while stopping for about 1.5 hours due to our children.



I've had 13 speeding tickets in my 15 years of driving, so I definitely don't need anymore.



Billy, VA SUCKS!!!! to drive through. I've gotten a ticket there, other members of my family have as well. On out last trip, my wife got one for going 14 or 15 miles over...this resulted in her getting a wreckless driving charge on her license. The speeders on I-77 must be paying for everything in that state.

I agree VA is pretty bad (real bad if out of state, and BRUTAL if you are from north of the Mason-Dixon line!)



However, I lived in Pennsylvania for 26 years and OHIO is by far the worst state for speeding tickets. I have got 2 there (one a couple summers ago), and a friend got one for going 59 in a 55 (no chit!)

When I lived in Ohio, I knew to NEVER drive over the speed limit...well maybe a couple mph. Of course I would speed when I really "had" to...but usually I was within 4-5 mph of the speed limit. What a pain that was.



Down here in Fl, if you are only driving 4-5 mph over the limit, a patrol car will want to run you off the road for going so slow.

There are a lot of hot girls here. Miss NC trains at the same gym as I do. We have three big universities, Duke UNC, and NC State all close by. The north/south thing is just a joke - lots of northern transplants live here and work in Research Triangle Park. Everyone gets along pretty well. It actually is a good place to live.

I live in NC and I've never seen cops do that. The most I've seen is them tailgating you to try to get you to move faster, then ticket you. If you keep your speed though they can't do anything. Just make sure you try to stay in the right one or two lanes, don't be in the passing lanes if a cop is tailing you.



I just got my first ticket in NC yesterday and let me tell you that they rake you through the coals! The ticket was for an expired registration which is a $25 fine, but even if you just want to pay the fine and not go to court they charge you $120 in court costs so my $25 fine is going to cost $145! After living most of my life in NJ this is unheard of. If you mail in your fine and don't go to court there you only have to pay the fine. Why would you have to pay court costs if you don't go to court? I'd like to know where my tax money is going.

Anyway, I got pulled for doing 88 in a 55 on I40 in Winston-Salem, the cop said, "Let's go! Get out of the car." When I asked, "What?" he said, "I have authority to take you down to jail...you're going to lose your license."



A quick story about a sick mom got me out of the "going to jail" part...20 minutes later...BAM 70 in a 55! The scond cop saw the first ticket on the car seat, looked at it and let me go. He also said I was going to lose my license.



$500 (and a lawyer) later, I got nothing.



Fast forward about 12 years...living back in NJ, and I get pulled for expired registration. The first cop came up to the car and said, did you know your registration sticker has expired. (Real azzhole!) My dalmation was growling and barking at him...anyway, in NJ you get a car inspected every two years, but have to register every year. I tried to pull the "I thought it was every two years.." Didn't work. Cop took my paperwork and license.



Second cop came up to door, (nice guy...dog went to window sniffing and acting friendly.) This second cop told me that they were going to have to impound my car. He asked if anyone could come and pick me up. So I started making calls. I left about 5 messages, before grandma answered and volunteered to come to pick me up at the Allentown, NJ police station.



The first cop comes back to the car, hands me my license and insurance and said, "Get your dog's leash and follow me!"



Yes, me and my dalmation were "thrown" in the back of the cop car, while we waited to see the tow truck come and pick up my car.



As we were driving to the police station, my brother, who had received my message, called me. I answered and told him the police impounded the car and were driving me and Dobber (dog) to the police station. My brother laughed and said, "What are they? Azzholes???"



The cell phone was on loud, the cops heard it, the nice one laughed. The azzhole looked back at me through the mirror. I laughed.



When we got to the police station, they opened the door, let me out and the azzhole cop said, "Ok, you're free to go."



A couple days and $500 later, I had my car back...



Morals of the story...



1. Animals can sense jerk offs.

2. 99% of the time, we still do something wrong and then get mad at the police

3. Keep your cell phone turned down or don't answer when you're in the car.

Michael, I'm super-paranoid about stuff like this happening to me. Thanks for reminding me about the truly important things in life!
