First Ryan I agree with Dirt Dogs about bringing up player names - you may be alerting people that don't even know who he is - there are better ways to get the information you are looking for (even reading some of the threads about STATS and the player adds)



Second, player additions to the FA list are cut off at 7 AM Sunday morning, so any transaction not made prior to that won't happen until Monday. Most players added on Saturdays are available for bidding on Sunday. Players added on Sundays will not be in the FA pool until the following week.

Yes, this whole thread was a transparent attempt to run up bids on the guy. No one would have questioned whether it was appropriate to do this if it was Gekko. It's all part of the game.

He will obviously be available this week in all leagues where he wasn't drafted, so good luck to everyone during the Week 6 FAAB.



As for asking this question, let's not get too crazy guys. This is a forum called Ask The NFBC A Question and I would hope that all NFBC guys will know about Max Scherzer before next Sunday's FAAB deadline. Nobody is calling out a player to raise the bids on him. Ryan's question is certainly legitimate and I'm sure there are others who were wondering where he was in FAAB yesterday. Yeah - I'm not in the main - but have two Sat teams in contention (Gekko's contest team hanging in 1st still) and wasn't aware of the free agent additional rules - so I do appreciate that info.

There is no rule and people like Gekko do that stuff regularly. People may not like it but you have every right to do it. W/R/T everyone knowing, I think they do, but a live topic on the mb about him will feed into the psychology that you need to spend a ton to get him and he will go up that much more.



On the topic of glass houses, this topic may have gone unnoticed if everyone didn't show up to complain. That will run up his price more than your initial post; it was the real proof that everyone wants him. I won't be shelling out the dough, so it is all good to me. Plenty of decent $20 pitchers out there.

In the mag lge he went for 404/135 this week, picked up by the same team that drafted and dropped him. A costly drop

The kid dosent even have a rotation spot!

This is the reason why I always chuckle when I hear someone say "I dont like the 12 team leagues. I play in the NFFC and NFBC because I want to play against the best" To me the whole reason I play in these leagues because I have the time, energy, and now I am finally getting the knowledge I need to be competitive and win leagues. Many of the owners are at a disadvantage when it comes to these factors! I played last year in two leagues (my first in 15 years) I appropriately finished last in the Childs' league and mid pack in the main. This year, and I know ALOT can change, I am 1st in the main (15th overall), 1st in a $250, and 6th in a $500. I spent countless hours getting ready for the drafts that I was in. With that being said will calling out a player make a big difference? I dont know the answer to that question but I do know that you better have a good idea who all the top minor leaguers are to be successful in this event!

Scherzer should be okay, but he won't be doing anything other than pitching in the bullpen (or in the minors) for another couple of months. He only pitched ~100 innings last year. This year they'll likely handle him with kid gloves and cap him at 140 or 150. He's already pitched over 30 innings, leaving 110 - 120 for the remainder of the season. Those paying for a "starter" will be disappointed.



just a hunch at this point in time, but i think come Sunday, there will be a much brighter star (than Scherzer) available. Enter Jeff Clement. I tried to get him in my main last week but was overbid. If he gets called up, I'll start a thread on him later this week.

PS – with schrezer’s role in the bullpen and clement soon to be called up but with a role somewhat undetermined (maybe a platoon partner at DH). The real payday will be with another prospect that may also be coming up this week as well. I won’t tell you his name, but I’ll give you a hint…he hit 3 homeruns last night and he was just picked up in my league. Happy hunting!

~Lance if he does, he is fantasy GOLD. bid everything you can spare. a 25hr catcher with a .300 average is hard to find.

damn you Ryan Carey no one would have known about this guy without you. Get out your check book ladies we have a 400 dollar avg winning bid guy on your hands. The avg winning bid for Hamels in 06 I believe was high 300's. Probably a little more risk here as the role is unclear but pitching in a better situation than ole Cole.



I certainly can understand putting big money on him if you feel like your squad is not up to snuff, but my issue is look no further than Johnny Cueto. Tough to do what Hamels did in 2006. BTW Jered Weaver was not too shabby either a couple of weeks later could that be Nick Adenhart in 08?

Scherzer lived up to the hype in his major league debut Tuesday night. He threw 4.1 perfect innings and struck out seven in relief. Scherzer struck out four of the first five hitters he faced.
