Why do things happen on Sunday (free agent bidding results) rather than Monday?



Sunday is for family and friends.



Monday is "back to work", and seems a better choice.



Just curious.

Having to squeeze bidding in right after work would suck. Some of us work during work?

The last I checked...you have all week to put in bids either way.



I'm just saying to have things set up on a day of travel and freedom is less attractive than a day when everyone is generally home and/or working.



They could set it up for Wednesday or any work day...I just don't like "working" on Sunday.



I could care less about "fantasy baseball tradition"...and am noting that there is really no important day n baseball.



For football...I understand and like Friday, as it allows you to sponge in the information and respond before game day...but I see no importance to the day we bid in baseball, and do not like screwing up every weekend because of it for no logical reason.

I agree that I work during work and I like to alter my bids based on the most current info, which I would not always have time to keep up with on a Monday. No offense Lance, but your logic could be applied the other way to say you have all week to put in your bids and then Sunday to spend with family.



But really whatever the reason, much less people would agree to it so there you go. If I'm not mistaken, weekday bids were brought up on here before and flatly shot down.

I have deadlines Thur 2pm, Fri 2pm, Sun 5pm, Sun 10pm, Mon 10 am for the different leagues I play in.

The baseball day is almost completely over by 5pm/8pm eastern on Sunday, minus Sunday night Baseball. There is no other day that consistantly offers that kind of stability and order. No other day would be proper. Should east coast teams have stay up till 1am to see if R. Furcal got hurt in the ninth???

If I am not mistaken, doesn't the baseball week run from Monday-Sunday? Are you suggesting having winning FA bids processed on a Wednesday for eligibility to be in your lineup the following Monday? Even processed on a Monday for the new week? Some of us don't have computer access to sport sites at work; New York State wants its employees to work and not waste time on the internet...

I think the current system is just fine; Well, I think Lance's point was that there is no reason to think that it runs from Monday to Sunday since games are played every day. That is just a traditional idea in your head without much reason for it. If the rest of us didn't have a weekend we wouldn't think the workweek runs from Monday to Sunday; it would just run.



But, yeah, Sunday is getaway day and excluding Sunday Night Baseball, it is the biggest lull in the week from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening so it does seem more logical than a Wednesday.

Now I think about it, you could argue that the season starts on Monday and ends on Sunday, giving credence to the thought that that is when the week starts and ends.

Back in the day, before we could bitch that live scoring on a game played at 5 AM in Japan was not accurate, we used to have to score by hand. USA Today was the primary source of stats. The AL stats were published every Monday for games through the previous Sunday while NL stats were published Tuesday, for games through the previous Monday. Mixed Leagues did not yet exist - I know, perish the thought -- so the standard scoring week was Mon-Sun for AL only and Tues-Mon for NL only.



Obviously this is now moot with the whole Internet thing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the AL stats came out on Tuesday and the NL stats came out on Wednesday. Both were for games ended on Sunday and thus as Todd explained you did your weekly stats through Sunday based on the most timely information -- USA Today's stats two and three days later.

~Lance Lance, you are always thinking, aren't you? I guess no timetable is perfect for everyone, but outside of those Japan games the season does start on a Sunday night and end on a Sunday night, giving us 26 full weeks of baseball. Also, from a free agent standpoint, there is just one Sunday night game each week and thus most of our games are decided by Sunday's FAAB deadline. If we did it any other day or night, there'd obviously be games and injuries occurring during those times.



That's the best explanation I can give, other than history shows a full week of fantasy baseball as Monday through Sunday. You keep coming up with the thinkers and I'll keep coming up with the B.S. answers. Sound good?
