Hey Greg,
I am a pretty regular facebook visitor and think it would be great if the NFBC got themselves a page on facebook for members to meet, friend one another, etc. I know that it would be interesting to put some faces with the names. I realize that many in this community might not be big facebook users, but it is an avenue to another demographic for the NFBC.
I was going to start a group myself, but then realized that with the new corporate partnership, better to run it past you guys. Would like to know what you guys think of the idea, and if you say OK - would be happy to be the guy to get it started on facebook.

I don't want to speak for Greg, but I think this is a great idea for both the NFBC and NFFC. Does anyone here know how to start a group like that? I'm on Facebook but I have no idea how to do that. If someone knows and Greg gives the OK I think this is definitely something that should be done.

I agree. My friend from Vegas was giving me the low down on Facebook the other day and it sounds pretty cool. Would give me a better reason to create an account if all our NFFC and NFBC brethren were apart of it as well.

Unfortunately, the way facebook is set up- anyone can can create a group page and they can do it without permission. It is a very easy process.
1-Go to Groups
2- Create new group
3-Follow instructions ( bunch of drop down boxes and inserts)
4- Customize
5- Send out invites

I just created one and then deleted because it is not my place-just testing its ease. Even had the web page listed and emails

Dub is correct - it is very easy to get started - all that would be required to keep it going would be a couple of people named as administrators to monitor the content and make sure it was up to your guys standards - I am sure that with the many lively characters here - more than a couple would agree to help maintain it. I actually had a test page up for a minute - but deleted it- so it is easy enough to get started. You could start one Tom, and then send invites to all from your email lists. Once people join, you as the creator of the group will be able to give certain people administrative authority and/or name officers.

He said he would try to lead this charge and get a site going on Facebook for the NFBC. Next thing you know, he will be Twittering!!
Good idea Ryan and Tom can update this thread next. Thanks all for the good idea and spread the word because the NFBC is ready to grow in 2009.

I have no clue how to "do" facebook, but fortunately I have in-home technical support (14 year old and 12 year old). I would be part of the group. I already have the picture I would put up...me at the beach...flip-flops, sunburn, speedo...classic...
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

That'd be nice. The most famous person on my friend's list is Andrew Bogut. Not quite the same.
No offense, Andrew.

I'm not boycotting, I'm just trying NOT to learn anything about Facebook or MySpace. I need less friends, not more friends!!
If Tom actually thinks Jessica Alba could join our Facebook page, I know he will do a good job running this. I'll stick to answering phone calls and e-mails and let him handle the dirty photos on this social networking site.

It's beautiful. Thanks for showing me the site and the 40 owners who have signed up there since this morning. NONE of them look like Jessica Alba.
Not even close. Call me back into that site when there's a little more to look at. Until then, I've got another phone call to make.

Picture this...
I'm working as a CNC machinist in a smallish company circa 1995. This guy who looks like a worn out rock and roll concert goer from the late 70's early 80's metal/rock genre (classic longish black hair, pale, skinny, possible drinker plus*) maybe 45 years old at the time.
A popular radio commercial comes on (still does today) selling diamonds and jewelry with the end of the commercial and company slogan...
"Now YOU have a friend in the diamond business."
...and with nobody but me in the room (and not talking to me, but rather, muttering to himself)...says with an Eeyore like sour tone...
"Just what I need...more friends."
