If you have a certain draft strategy in mind, for example, you are targeting Miguel Cabrera in the first round, and you wind up with the #1 pick, do you:



1. Damn the draft position and pick Miguel Cabrera or

2. Scrap your strategy and pick a different player?

I think three things are very important.



1) Having a draft strategy.

2) Be able to make adjustments on the fly.

3) Don't be a sheep.



It's difficult to justify taking Cabrera at #1 overall, but if you wholeheartedly believe this is his year, you go for it. The #1 pick across the board is rarely the #1 producer come season's end. Ask all of the Arod owners last year and Pujols' owners the year before that.



ADP is a guide, not a Bible. Ask ten different experts and you'll often get ten different answers. If you did your homework and have a plan you're comfortable with, go with it. Doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

don't forget, miggy is a lazy POS!

If you really want Cabrera you would have set your kds at 5 ,6,7. and since you got one then you probably would have gotten 5,6,or 7.

I can't rationalize taking Miggy over Pujols.



The only thing to like Miggy more is age and RBI (maybe).



Pujols has .334 career average and career slugging of .624. There have been very few guys to slug over .600 for their careers. He is the top of the 1B food chain.

2. Scrap your strategy and pick a different player? At number 1, you have to take who you think will will be the biggest fantasy stud this year. Number 1 is the toughest because it is impossible to get "value" out of the position. The best a player can be is #1, right?



Unless you feel Miguel Cabrera will top the Fantasy world in 2009, scrap your strategy and plan on getting a "lesser" first baseman latter (like some losers like Morneau, Fielder, or Gonzalez).

Good luck in Vegas Think you took Utley last year at 7 or 8 He is sneaking up the list again. Do not think he will fall to me at 11 especially if he shows that he is 90% and can actually steal a few. Throws a little wrinkle at 8.

At 11 I have already scripted my draft. Where do you think he goes now?

Marty Hey Marty! I know you are going to knock em dead in NYC.



I have been watching Mr. Utley. You are right, I got him last year at #7 (really had to flip a coin between him and Cabrera). He is looking more and more like he will miss little if any at the start of the season and I bet this next ADP has him creaping up more (he already is at the back end of round 1), as you mentioned. I think you have a GOOD shot, say 50/50 to get him at 11. Rollins, Kinsler, and Utley could go back-to-back-to-back.



I am not going there, however, at #8. First, one of the "Big 7" could drop and I will be right there with my hand on the buzzer to snatch em up. After that, there are two rock solid picks for me to flip that coin on again. You will have to guess which two dudes (or send me a PM) I have in mind, but neither will be stretch picks.
