Yes, we've teased that in the magazine and on the signup page and today I look forward to explaining this fully. Give me a few more minutes to make sure we have the program completely correct and I'll post a separate thread on this.
Basically, though, we are working with a new company in the industry called Fantasy Sports Insurance who is a sponsor of the NFBC in 2010. They are going to allow anyone who pays for any NFBC league they enter by check the chance to insure one player and receive part of your entry fee back if he spends a certain amount of time during the season on the DL. There is no cost to you as we are providing this as a benefit, along with Fantasy Sports Insurance, to those who pay via check.
The benefits are obvious to all parties and I'm sure everyone will understand that. a) The players get a chance to insure someone like Jose Reyes or Brandon Webb or Carlos Beltran or anyone who has missed considerable time with injuries for free just by choosing to pay by check. b) We have cost savings by not having more than $1 million in entry fees getting hit by credit card charges. And c) Fantasy Sports Insurance gets to unveil this unique and rather cool idea to the most dedicated base of fantasy players in the industry.
So it's a win-win-win for everyone. We just need to get all of the details ironed out and then officially announce it. I'm almost ready. Anyone who wants to can still pay by credit card and we'll have the credit card payment system in place very soon on the registration page. But if you opt to pay by check, you could receive something that -- even though you hope it doesn't happen -- can give you some money back if your star player goes on the DL for a very lengthy amount of time.
So I kind of gave it away, but I know a lot of folks are asking about it. Stay tuned and we'll have it all down shortly.

If this insurance takes hold...the "monopoly" first version will pale in comparison to when they have non-price-fixed competition.

I signed up to pay with a credit card. I would like to change that to pay by check and get the insurance. How can I do that? Also, there is no link under "My Settings" to make my KDS preferences. How do I set those?

It seems like a no-brainer to pay by check if this is the case. There's no catch?
Thanks.

A reminder that the insurance option applies to the following events:
Main Event Classic
Super
Ultimate
Diamond
If you signed up to pay by credit card and entered your payment info but now wish to pay by check to take advantage of the insurance offer you can do that. Email myself (
[email protected]) or Greg (
[email protected]) to notify us of the change and we'll make sure your card is not charged on Feb. 15 when we run all the charges. We will be providing the address for where you should send your check for payment real soon.
As far as the insurance, there is no catch at all. It's free, it's not something anyone hopes they can cash but it does provide a small level of comfort if your season is negatively impacted by a top player missing most of the year due to injury. It's a great offer.

Tom, I won a free entry ($325 Slo-Draft) that I am using for the Mar 21st Vegas Classic. Is that considered as paying by check? Do I automatically get insurance?
Thanks, Mike
