The upcoming suspension for Barrett should be very interesting. Julian Tavarez got 10 games for swinging at a player who was underneath him at the plate on a wild pitch scoring attempt, his punch just grazed the runner. I wonder if the quality of Barrett's punch will result in a stiffer suspension. I'm guessing it will, but whenever a punch is thrown isn't the intent to have a result like Barrett's? Should he be penalized more because he is a better pugilist than most players? It should be interesting, any thoughts?

I'm thinking he gets 15 games. I can't figure out why AJ got thrown out that game as well. You're right though, that was the best clean punch I've seen in a baseball game in memory.

Tavarez had a history though, so maybe not. I'd say give him a 2-game suspension.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Varitek got 4 a couple of years ago, for his spat with A-fraud...

Varitek was a pushing match. Barrett should go down for 10 games-- hopefully he'll appeal and then start serving on a monday night on the west coast at 9:50pm with no chance of replacing him because of 1 Tampa Bay game that started at 7:15. Does the DL rule cover suspensions?

At least it did a tiny tiny bit to remove the "MLB baseball players are total wimps" tag from themselves.

I'm thinking Barrett will get 7-10 games. As mentioned, Julian Tavarez has a history of transgressions; Barrett does not.

Should get 5 games max. I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

The decision came down...Selig is going to borrow a page from my Uncle Earl's handbook and send them out in the backyard with a set of boxing gloves and a gallon of Kool-aid to "...settle it once an for all like men..." just like what used to happen with my cousins!
Never could get Earl to see that Kool-aid and real men don't match, but he would never give up his beer...said we were only seven and too young...go figure!

The hammer comes down today. Speculation says it may be 10 games. Will Barrett appeal, and hopefully buy time until D.Lee gets back? That way their offense will only be pathetic as opposed to downright embarassing if Barrett simply accepts his fate.
Regardless, I just hope the Cubbies are forthright with their intentions regarding an appeal or not, and NOT handle it the way they handle thier injuries.

It's 10! A side of Henry Blanco anyone?
