What do you think? Could this happen? TB is loaded with outfielders, ecspecially if you count BJ Upton who belongs out there. Ervin Santana would look nice paired with Kazmir for the next ten years. But do you think this could really happen? Chest you got a Florida perspective? UFS or Captain Hook what's the beat from Southern Cal?

Slacker Brothers would be best to answer from the Tampa side. If I am Tampa I need a little more b/c I believe CC is locked up through arbitration. Maybe Kotchman and Santana.
I know Kotchman is from Tampa and they need any good press plus on a team based in speed a hitter like him could compliment it quite a bit.
Assuming Upton is an outfielder they still have one too many with Dukes, Upton, Delmon Young and Baldelli.
To me the D Rays are a fascinating team and if they let Hunsicker loose he will build them. Can they get anything for Huff at this point (talk about overplaying your hand- the Braves were willing to give Marte 2 offseasons ago) and do they any chance of resigning Lugo? They still need 4-5 more ML arms but getting Santana would be a start.
I would not want to be a pitcher who has to face CC, Figgins, and Vladi to start a game.

I think moving Carl for less then TWO young strong starting pitchers is something I dont want to see. Carl is locked up for the next 5+ years at low money. I think it would be the wrong move for Tampa to move Carl at any cost. First thing is first, Lugo and Huff will be moved this year and they should be able to get something decent for Lugo. Maybe a couple of balls and a bats for Huff, if we get a player that breaths, I would be excited. Devil Rays are going to be very interesting during the trade deadline and into next year. SlackerDan

How can you be in existence that long and not develop one decent pitcher that helps your team?
Kazmir fell in their laps which is well documented.
I do not know of anyone on the horizon who can help either?
Good debate though- in a couple of hours bjoak will be here to settle this all for us and teach all a thing or two.

They'd also have control of E. Santana for a number of years. Two stud pitchers may be alot to ask. And Kotchman may be too much as well. TB needs arms. Which team do you think is more reluctant to pull the trigger?
It is quite possible that the Kazmir trade could be the worst thing to happen to the D-rays. I mean, if they enter every trade looking for a haul like that, then they'll never make a deal.

Interesting point about Kazmir... bottom line Chuck Lamar was terrible! Since he was the GM he gets all of the blame. J. Hamilton, P. Wilder, D.Brazelton, the list goes on and on. If any of the early hitters made it to the big leagues, their needs might have been different. In recent years they have really focused on pitchers in the draft and I am not giving up on the Edwin Jackson. Look at Crawford stats ... they are awesome and he is still a kid. I agree they need pitching, badly. I think the new ownership will go out and spend on some middle of the road starters. I really think Lugo will be traded before the deadline and to the "right" team / ie: Mets will still be able to salvage Heliman.
2008 they will be the team to beat in the AL east. Ok, I said it!

I think they would need to give up a little bit more. Mathis or Aybar would work IMO. If Kotchman, TB would have to give something else back. That guy can flat out hit when healthy.
Kennedy is going to be moved. He is a FA and Kendrick is hitting .398. Cantu to 3B?
Maddon has seen every Angel prospect over the years and I'm sure he'd like to get his hands on a few.
I went to the KC game Tuesday night and Jered simply can't be sent down. Jeff has pitched much better since Jered arrived. Looks like he might go top the pen until someone is moved. I would go with a 6-man rotation for now. Odd, but maybe the best thing for Colon also.
The other problem is where do you play Crawford?
I guess CF. GA can still drive in runs when needed (40 in 65 games). Maybe GA becomes DH, but then Angels have an OF problem then also.
Figgins, Cabrera, Crawford, Vlad would be sweet.

I think TB had Crawford in CF for a bit this year, but then decided he was better in LF. I think he'd have to play left in LAA. Figgins, Erstad, or Rivera would play center. Depending on what shakes out at 3rd. Kendrick at 2nd should happen anyday now. Kennedy doesn't seem like a fit in TB with free agency looming.
If I am TB, it is something I would strongly consider. For some reason I think that LAA might be the hesitant ones. With jeff's fragile psyche and Colon's continued injury concern the Angels may be hesitant to make an Arroyo-Pena deal, and then realize they really need the arm.
In any event, it probably won't happen, but it does seem there is somewhat of a fit there.

Personally, I think TB would be crazy to only get 1 young pitcher for Carl Crawford. The injury/other risks of pitchers are just too high to make this worth while imho

Spy Santana and Adenhart. The Angels still have Saunders who would fill in nicely at 4 or 5.

Jered Weaver was sent down after the game tonight.

A few years ago the good organizations kept their kids in the minors until they were sure that they were major league ready. Now those same teams (Atlanta with Francoeur, McCann, etc; LA with Kemp, Martin, Ethier; Mets - Milledge, Yankees - Cabrera, Angels- Weaver,Kendrick) are changing that philosophy and letting their kids get tested before the September call-ups.
Meanwhile Tampa Bay marches on to the sound of a different drum. So far the only thing they know about Young and Upton is that their attitude and drinking are major league ready.

I think it is pretty obvious they are holding back their service time, which may have something to do with the Weaver decision too.
Chuck Lamar was like the guy a lot of us have played with in home leagues. Team is in 9th place but still does not want to trade....
It will be interesting to see if the new regime changes philosophy this year although if you they get a B level prospect for Huff they should go out and celebrate.

[/QUOTE]I agree on the service time for TB guys, but no for Weaver. The Angels have historically sent down guys in this situation. Santana was sent down after shutting out the WSox last year.
They really wanted to keep Jared up, but had no other option as no one will take Jeff ( he has 5 straight QS) even if they pick up his salary. I think the Santana-Crawford trade came up too late to get anything done. And maybe Santana pitches well today and TB pulls the trigger. Seems like both GM's are too cautious here.
Those two teams could pull off a major deal. I could see Huff and MacPherson in the trade also.

I was under the impression that the Angels...(like all MLB teams)...goal is to win games.
Jared Weaver helped do that.
