Pineiro as closer?

Yes, that's right, we may have to all finally learn how to spell his name, but the real question is can he make the transition from crappy starting pitcher to crappy relief pitcher. I say yes!

He was my 30th round draft pick last year. I gambled he could regain some of what he was a few years ago. Yes it was only a 30th round pick. It was however wasted. Let someone else pick him much higher this year.

He will never make it as a closer in Boston. Once, he gives up two homers that land on the Mass. pike to lose games, they will hang him from the Citgo sign!!

I think in the end, it will be Papelbon, whether he likes it or not, he was lights out and there is no one on the current roster that can save better than 50%. Piniero or Clement will be the 5th starter for the Sox

And I doubt that Piniero starts (he was much better in relief last year than starting). His contract is incentive loaded based on how many games he finishes, so they are definitely going to give him a shot to be the closer - along with almost everyone else.

Call it the spaghetti method - throw them all (Piniero, Timlin, Hansen, Donnelly etc) out there and see which one sticks.

And there is always the Wakefield option... if the manager has enough antacid tablets.

Nope, I agree with Bobby. Pineiro will be horrible and Pap will only be slightly above average as a starter. They've tried to avoid it, but I think they will have no choice but to return Pap to the pen. I doubt Pineiro goes in the rotation. Most likely they'll use him for specific matchups or release him.
