Winner = Phoenix (Howie Kendrick)

Week 9 winners...

Winners = cribgusto (Ryan Howard); Gerry Scotto Di Marco (Ryan Howard); RODGER (Jose Reyes)

Who is Nick Markakis?

Currently being ADP'd around rounds 10-11, Markakis will enter 2008 as a 24-year-old with substantially higher expectations. He will be coming off a 2007 in which he will have emerged as the 3-hole cornerstone of the Baltimore offense, finishing up with a .302 average with 26 dingers, 8 bags, 114 runs, and 107 RBIs. Prognosticators in February 2008 will forecast a .300-30-10 type season, and will recommend him being selecting in the early 3rd round in 15-team drafts.

Further boosting Markakis' stock will be the return of Tejada (signed through '09) in the cleanup spot, and Baltimore's addition of a big bat through free agency in the 07/08 offseason. Both this signing and Tejada's return will have been made possible by an improbable Oriole 2007 run in which they will have come up just short of the AL Wildcard.

On to the Week 10 question...This player will be drafted within the first three rounds in 2008, while having a 2007 ADP of 10th round or later. Assuming you mean ADP in 2008, no player will achieve this.

Who is Francisco Liriano?

Surgery is a success. Spring training of 2008 he shows he has not missed abeat. Carpenter current ADP of 34 Oswalt 40 Halladay 42 Zambrano 44 If 1 or 2 slip Halladay gets injured Zambrano traded or Free agency to an AL team Liriano could easily go in 3rd round Still only 23 years old and is a product of the same organization that has brought you Mr. Santana

No Way any pitchers other than ... Santana , Haladay, Carpenter, Oswalt and Webb should be taken in the 1st 3 rounds. Pitching is a 100 deep and way to volatile to risk any other options that early. Now Alex Gordon on the other hand is a Risk worth taken in the " 1st 3 rounds ". There are only 3 solid 3rd baseman IMHO. Cabrera, Wright and Ramirez, maybe 4 if you add Glaus. therefore why not take a shot at a once in a decade phenom. If you miss, oh well, pick up who is ever hot on the waiver wire, But if you Hit.....Ohhh if you hit, then the gap between him and the rest of the pack will be substantial...!!!

Who is Chris Duffy?

Really, anyone brought up in this question will be scoffed at because if they were a expected to be a stud, they'd be drafted earlier.

I feel Duffy does have a chance, though to prove himself as a valuable source of stolen bases if he can carry over what he did in the final 53 games of the 2006 season would translate into about 60 steals, 100 runs scored and a .283 batting average. If he were to compile such stats, he would most likely be picked inside the first 20 picks in 2008.

Duffy's ADP in the 2007 mocks thus far have been falling in the 11-14 round range. Is this do to his horrible 2006 start or to his quitting the game completely mid-season? Probable, but he's a decent risk at that point to show off the speed that netted him 23 steals at the end of last season.

Thanks,

The Mudster

who is papelbon? last year the correct answer to this is going to be hanley ramirez- so i think you need to find a young guy that steals 50 bases and hits well. duffy may steal 50- but i doubt he hits well enough to qualify.i can't see another one, so... we go with a pitcher. papelbon actually has 2 chances. if he is lights out as a starter he could win 20 games- if boston can find a closer. actually i am shocked they are going to try and go into the season again without a proven closer- but that is another topic. if papelbon can k 200, win 20, and have great era and whip- he could pass carpenter as #2 pitcher in fantassy- especially on east coast where 95% of all sports info originates. if they need a closer he could move back into that role- perform like he did last year -and surpass nathan as #1 closer, therby sqeezing into 3rd round. of course he could blow out his arm and be done by may- but who said this was an easy answer to a tough question.

Who Is Corey Patterson?

Baltimore is due for an offensive resurgence, and Patterson will a very important part of it. With a healthy Roberts and Tejada, a breakout year for Markakis, and the newly acquired Huff - who finally got sprung from Tampa - Patterson will have plenty of bats around him.

After getting our attention with a 15/15 half-season in 2003, Patterson gave us a glimpe of his promise with a 24hr, 35SB season in 04 - albeit with a lower average. He promptly tanked in 05, in which he flirted with the Mendoza line most of the year, then mounted a nice comeback last year and surprised all with 45 bags. The "Are we going to see 2006 or 2005?" mindset will make him a late round selection this year.

A notorious pull-hitter, the lefty is loving the short right porch in Camden - which at 318' is an birdie putt closer than his old Wrigley confines - and will increase his HR tally over the 16 in 450 ABs he gave us last year. Of course, who in fantasyland can complain about 40+ steals?

Not a leadoff hitter by any means as his OBP can be painfully low, but luckily thats not a NFBC stat Look for a .270, 28 HR, 40SB breakout season from Patterson in 2007, and a third round selection in next years draft.

I don't like to comment negatively about anyone's answers with these, as they do get discussions happening, but Patterson hasn't made it to the 10th round in over 400 mock drafts on MDC. Maybe read the question wrong.

Well, he's gone as low as #123, so that would make him a 10th rndr in 10 or 12 team leagues, but it's certainly borderline. At least people are agreeing

So, if it's based on ADP, he's at 88 so scrap the entry I suppose. Or...maybe I can just amend it a bit and make it Eric Byrnes....

Who might be Chris Young? , because I've got two chances to be right if I don't tell you which one. (Do I get partial credit for Chris Ianetta or Delmon Young?)

Who is Jorge Cantu?

After a terrible 2006 season, Jorge worked out all winter getting back into top physical shape and it paid off. After being drafted in most leagues between rounds 11 and 15 in 2007, his bounceback season of .288 with 33 HR and 129 RBI makes Jorge a late 2nd round pick in 2008.

Eat it Gekko! ;) You awarded the guy who nominated Alex Gordon and I nominated Markakis and lo and behold he's a late 3rd rounder in the mocks! I should get something retroactively! :D

How about Heffer picking Beckett to win the cy young award and being a 3rd round pick.Boy he is right on Beckett will be a top 6 pitcher taken and he should have won the CY YOUNG award.

Maybe we [or gekko] should pick the winners after the season , i picked Garko who hit more homers than Kouzmanoff.

Eddie I liked your Garko pick and there for a while I thought he might get to 30 HR. Anyways, always interesting to look back (especially when we were right! :D )

American Dreams i did draft Garko in a couple leagues and spent my last dollars on him in the American League auction.Garko had a pretty good first season, the 289 bavg was really nice.Im hoping his rbi's should rise over 80 this year.

Heffer, his Beckett pick was right on , i missed the boat on Beckett as he was being taken as late as the 10th and 11th round.

American Dreams win's the best forecasting of the year.Everything you said about Markakis came thru he was a 8th to 10th round pick last year and just like you said he will be a early 3rd round pick this year.Guys who can give you 100 runs ,100 rbi's , and a 300 bavg are very special. Also throw in his 18 steals and that will probably go up .Just 24 he will be their stud for a long time.

Imagine if someone called out Ryan Braun last year , a lot of us would have been saying who's he.
