I'm new to the NFBC this year and am starting off with a couple of satellite leagues to get my feet wet. I've been playing fantasy baseball in different formats for several years though, so I'm no stranger to the game. I had a $125 satellite draft on the 19th of February, and another one tonight. I'm just wondering if there were any opinions out there on how I did on my first draft, and what I can do to improve this next one. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Does this team have a chance?
As another NFBC 1st year player, take my advice with a grain (or rock) of salt. My quick observations are:
1. Pitching staff seems overloaded.
2. May not have supported the Reyes pick with enough SBs to get capitalize on Reyes' speed.
3. Look to be short on HR/RBI.
I think your team would be really balanced if you had taken a 20/20 hitter instead of Verlander or Liriano (very early given the risk). And an OF with upside instead of 1 of the 3 RPs. Now of course, balanced does not necessarily mean better. You seem to be a lock for 50+ pitching points. I just don't see much more than 40-45 points of hitting.

Likewhat 17,
I agree with pretty much what Asumijet said.
One thing I did notice, is you have 2 real nice pitchers, and a high risk/high reward pick in Liriano. The problem is your next starter wasn't taken until round 19, so the back half of your staff could negate the advantage of your "big 3".
I also agree that you didn't put too many steals around Reyes, so that might be somewhat of a problem.
I'm new too, but unlike Asumijet, I don't know much!
Good Luck!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the opinions from both of you. The reason that I didn't add too much speed after Reyes, is because instead of having a monster advantage in one category, I wanted to try to create a balanced team. I like that in my first 4 picks I went with an awesome speed guy(Reyes), a big Average/Rbi guy (Ordonez), good power pitcher (Webb), and a good power guy (Pena).. I also like the back end of my rotation, even though I dont have a lot of high picks there, there is enough depth to fill out nicely i think.. If Garland or Schmidt bounce back, I could be in for a big year
