Edinson Volquez update.........

Post by Crazy Like a Fox » Thu Apr 03, 2008 5:26 am

Edinson pitched an extended spring training game on Monday in Sarasota.

7 2/3 innings - 2 hits - 0 walks, 0 earned runs -13 strikeouts.

All the attention on Cueto while Volquez (who has some major league experience unlike Cueto) will slip under the radar.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
LOL. Yes, but they tested each player before the game and more than half were juiced.

5.1 innings - 5 hits allowed - ZERO homers allowed - 2 walks - 8 strikeouts and 1 great start.

I guess my $101 bid in our league was worth it. It's not easy to find starting pitchers with high strikeout potential lying around.
I just love watching everyone get all excited and overconfident in Cueto, Volquez, Parra, Eveland, et all after one start. Everyone can talk atthe end of the year if they still kick ass, but it is one start right? Not picking on you Crazy, just after reading all these threads I just finally laughed enough to start typing. Should I crown my 3rd SP Sheets the Cy Young for starting with 15.2 shutout IP?
haha. I agree. It is silly. But I felt the need to say something after all the Volquez bashing compared to the Cueto hype.

Lots will change. That's for sure. I think Volquez is legit, I said it before his start.

Time will tell.

But you are right Hardheads, all this talk is way too early.

Of course C.C. had to chime in because he's a Cueto owner.

No, I had to because I own Sheets in a league. I drafted him in January. Eddie Gillis told me his was a risky pick in the 10th round. I wish he feel to more in the 10th.

On an ever so slightly related subject...

Has the past NFBC main event winners sniffed a "wire to wire" win...I'm talking being in the top 25 from start to finish...or is it always the final 2 months or so that need to play out?
I'm not playing in the main (2 Sat teams) - but as an excited (don't know that I'm OVER-confident though) owner of three of those guys (not Volquez) my first thought after reading this was- "This guy's team must be off to a lousy start"

After looking up your squad - I can see how the Mark Buerhle and Daniel Cabrera starts and the Kelvim Escobar pick make it hard to keep listening to all the people gush over their shiny new "Aces"

Yes, it is one start - but the excitement comes because they all showed what they are capable of and delivered exactly what those who took the risk to invest in these rookies knew their possible upside was.
Hey Ryan yes we did start off with 32ip 22er and 47 baserunners with zero wins from our starters, but after our 31ip, 3er 4 wins 1 save in 4 starts today we are doing just fine. Now if our first 8 hitters drafted can start to produce then we will be just fine. Oh and play in the main would ya. LOL
