Bobby the only real problem with your draft I think is not getting another solid catcher... I don't even like Paulino that much this year, but as a 2 he's fine. John Buck was a wasted pick I think. Coulda gotten Soto, Towles, Hernandez, or Molina a little earlier, or even Ruiz.

Do you feel the same way about Gallardo and Lincecum (aka the next wave of great pitchers)? And Damon I think was fantastic there... what risk is there?

I actually think buck is not that bad if you let catching go..he hit 18 hrs in 300 at bats last year..his average will kill you but if he could ever hit 25 hrs if he got another 125 at bats..I would take 25 hrs out of a catcher like that even if he hits .240....

He hit 18 homers in 347 ABs.. and you can't project for a full season.. he has never had over 400 ABs and he certainly won't this year with Olivo there as well... and also, he hit .222... that DESTROYS your BA. I'll pass.

if he could increase his home runs by 2 and his batting average by .18, 20 hrs and 240 is not much different than some of the catchers that are considered in the middle tier who bat 260 and hit 16 home runs....

With good batting average drafted in the first few rounds, Buck makes an excellent pick. Snyder, Buck, Navarro, and Laird are all good end gamers at catcher. All for different reasons and dependant on the personnel leading up to their selection.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

yes Douogh...I agree 100 percent..we started hanley, rios and magglio so we knew we could afford 1-2 average clunkers...turned out we had only 3 but we like the upside of stephen drew and andruw jones...hoping one of them can up their average about 25 points or so...

Bobby, it was great talkin with ya at the draft, man. I still like my team better (as I think anyone should like their own team better pretty much), but yours is definitely really really good. I think our league will have 3 studs, 3 duds, and a whole lot in between. Vander, out of curiosity, which of my picks in the middle-late didn't you like? I obviously know you weren't a fan of me getting Braun and Howard Dave I think you did a great job throughout. I can't really criticize you anywhere. You took Bucholz a little early for my taste and mayby rasmus too. They both could work out. You've got a great team. I'm worried about you and Booby most of all. no offense to the other teams in our league. I just think you 2 have a VERY good chance. My hope is Bobby's pitvching goes south. If it doesn't it's going to be a long year. I could finish top 30 overall and come in 3rd in my league.

we could all look at 30 teams and have 30 different opinions on them, that is what makes the time before the season gets going great. Some players are riskier than others and no lineup stays healthy all year. I think Terry Haney or someone in the top 5 took Baldelli in the 5th last year and it did not come back to bite them. I was able to settle for Buck, due to my first 6 hitters combining for about a 310 average over 3000 plus ab. I am sure Pedro or Harden will not live up to my expectations but one of them will and if they do, I get a starting pitcher with 2nd or 3rd round stuff in the 10th or later. Everyone has guys they target and Damon was not one of them for me, but come on the 12th round, healthy or not, not many can say that if Damon was available in round 12 that they would not take him.

it also helps that we did have a number of teams that were not prepared, using website top 200 from January and magazines that they got at the draft. I think we have 4 very strong teams that can compete for the league title, we also have 4-6 teams that will never see the light of day. After looking at all of the teams in the league on the plane ride home. I really like the team from the 5 spot, but I have also had a lot of success on the FAAB and won a league title because of it, so at this point I think I am about 10% ahead of the game after the draft, due to the value that fell to me, now it is up to health and FAAB to do the rest

Haney did take baldelli in the 5th. I was p!@#$d cause I wanted him. That would've only made his team stronger. Damon was a steal. Those guys at team 5 took my pitching all day long. That's why I'm short on K's. My pitchers all belong to them.

I think I was also taking a lot of their picks on the way back, because I kept getting dirty looks and comments from those guys, but it was all in fun
