Free agency ain't what it used to be for ballplayers. Formerly a bonanza for most ballplayers that outlived a contract, free agency remains that way for only the top echelon.
Sabathia, Dempster, and Burnett seem to be the wise ones this year, all getting rich contracts early.
While in past years it was thought to be wise to hold out longer for more money, the opposite is true this year. Guys like Manny, Abreu, and Dunn will be signed, but the riches they had hoped for will not be there. The economy is tough. Some owners are feeling the pinch, others are using it to their advantage by driving prices for players down.
Unlike other years there are still several free agents available with just a couple of weeks till players start reporting. The group of interest are the "hangers on".
Last year Kenny Lofton was thought to be a hanger on, selling his wares to at least a team a year near the end and always getting paid well. Last year, no offers. None came until March when Tampa Bay offered a measley million bucks, Lofton couldn't take the hit to his pride, turned down the offer and was never offered another contract.
With the thought of getting "They Killed Kenny'ed", here's a list of players that better take an offer, any offer.

They Killed Kenny!!!
Tom "Flash" Gordon is about to be signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks - as usual with them either a year too late or a year too early.
On top of the $7+ million they are committing to Jon Garland (one year + mutual option) they are now showing everyone how stupid they were for claiming poverty and not resigning Randy Johnson who they could have had for LESS than Garland who is an innings eating hack.....can't wait to see him pitch in Coors.

With that MESSAGE BOARD topic and a subsequent post by Perry Van Hook I was starting to feel a bit nervous.
Leave KENNY alone!
