This was not my strategy going into the draft, but Martin and Mauer fell to me in the 4th and 5th rounds. What is your take on the following team with two stud catchers? Was it a mistake to grab both?

C Russell Martin LA R4 P8

C Joe Mauer MIN R5 P8

1B Derrek Lee CHC R6 P8

CI James Loney LA R10 P8

SS Jimmy Rollins PHI R1 P8

2B Mike Aviles KC R13 P8

MI Khalil Greene STL R18 P8

SS/3B Jed Lowrie BOS R23 P8

3B Ian Stewart COL R17 P8

OF Manny Ramirez LA R2 P8

OF Jacoby Ellsbury BOS R3 P8

OF Adam Jones BAL R15 P8

OF Jose Guillen KC R16 P8

OF Ken Griffey SEA R20 P8

OF Michael Cuddyer MIN R24 P8

OF Brandon Moss PIT R27 P8

OF Ron Belliard WAS R29 P8

DH Gary Sheffield DET R21 P8

SP Josh Beckett BOS R7 P8

SP Daisuke Matsuzaka BOS R9 P8

SP Ryan Dempster CHC R12 P8

SP Josh Johnson FLA R14 P8

SP Ubaldo Jimenez COL R19 P8

SP Randy Wolf LA R22 P8

SP Anthony Reyes CLE R25 P8

SP Kevin Millwood TEX R28 P8

RP Brad Lidge PHI R8 P8

RP Heath Bell SD R11 P8

RP Rafael Soriano ATL R26 P8

RP C.J. Wilson TEX R30 P8

I am definately hurting at 3B with Stewart probably struggling for playing time, I wish I had taken another 3B. Swing away!

With Martin in the fourth, you probably had a shot at Atkins, Huff or Figgins (though with Ellsbury in the third to go with Rollins, you probably wouldn't even need to consider Figgins). With the catcher position being so risky and Mauer still down in the back, you could have gotten a decent anchor at the corner.

But this is picking nits. Looks like a great team to me, Bobby! ;)

I have no prblem with 2 c strategy, but I dont like Mauer since he is a limited player to begin with and has had the back issues which can be demons.

i just noticed in another thread that 100K champ bobby j drafted paulino and buck in the ME last year. personally, i think it's too risky and there's too much to be lost by using two prime picks on catchers.

I have to agree - I like Martin in the 4th, but Mauer is just too risky for me for this year. The concern I have with Catchers is they just take too much abuse during the year and often fade...

Can never say it's a bad strategy as I like the 'well balanced roster' as much as anyone, but when I look over your team for power sources, I see Manny and...... well, just Manny.

Lidge at 8.8??? That's grand larceny.
