Did a satelite last night. This can not be overstated...closers are going fast and furious. I completely misread the closer lay of the land. In retrospect it made sense. THere are at least 6-7 unsettled closer situations: Seattle, St Louis, Balt, Tampa, Col, Oak, Fla. Then you add in the recent inj to ancient Hoffman. So there are about 23 guys who have definite jobs, 3-4 of who are last resorts only. Doing the math and utilizing supply and demand and there arent enough to go around. Then factor in the inevitable guy trying out the LIMA, RIMA or whatever BS, non-winning strategy, and there is serious scarcity.
In last night's draft, the end of the 10th round, there was maybe one or two closers with definite jobs remaining. For those in the main event beware.

The funny thing is I bet the O/A winner will end up nailing 2 guys from those teams in the late teens. He'll have loaded up on O and Sp's early giving him a distinct advantage and he'll end up with 65 saves(for starters) to boot.

Q is correct. The overall winner will "back into" saves either by accident or by design. My guess is it will be by design.

Pete If by design it would certainly be a ballsy move. You definitely won't have any warm and fuzzies coming out of the draft with 2 clunkheads for closers. If you miss on both your season could very well be a lonnnnnnnng one.
Which way you leaning Pete ?

Here is the problem with the backing in strategy...how many of the back up guys do you have to draft and at what cost? The "closers in waiting" started to go in 13-14th round. Those 123-20 rounds are the meat and potatos rounds, when you fill in your needs. If you have to draft 3-5 to get MAYBE 2 closers, what are you sacrificing in other areas? In retrospect, Id draft one solid guy, maybe in 8-9 and then try to take another flier in 12. Then wait until 20s to add a couple of potential guys

the winner won't sacrifice anything. He'll take a shot at two late and that'll be it. It's a gamble for sure but that's what it'll take to get you an edge over 389 other teams.
- like this guy who posted right above.

How many went with all reliever or something like it. If even one team went that way, it won't relate to the Main.
Most Main drafts are done with 5 or 6 closers in question since we draft two weeks before the draft. Nothing different this year.

My last weeks satellite didn't mirror this one. Closers were drafted proper. Some drafts are all over the gaff.

Jim Stanard went the closer route, but actually only got two locked in closers and did so later then youd want if you would want to go the LIMA plan or whatever its called. Then he took a couple of possibles like Corpas. So even though he did utilize the reliever stratgy, he didnt affect the draft much, if at all...I did think of that.
Anyway, just thought it was interesting fodder for this venue. If what Im hearing is true, the winner will have either the added insight as to who steps into the role, luck or some combo thereof.
If anyone wants to critique my team let me know and I will post it.
