Best Week Ever!

Post by bjoak » Mon Apr 06, 2009 10:59 am

It's time to give the props to the guys who look like Ricky Henderson or Babe Ruth in their primes on the first week and then see how many of them hold their value.

After a half day some candidates are last night's big bid option Emilio Bonifacio who went 3 for 3 with a homerun and two stolen bases. Good lord. Nice to pick a guy off waivers and then watch him have the best fantasy day ever.

Felipe Henry Aaron Lopez already has two, what, stolen bases? Nope, two home runs on the first day. If you were skeptical that he could recapture his past glory and then some in a friendly ballpark, well, you might be right, but he already has more than a fifth of the homers I predicted for his entire season. If he keeps up at this rate he'll have to quit hitting homers entitrely at the end of his best week ever to satisfy expectations.

As for the worst week ever, angry Brett Myers' owners need look no further than Brandon Burke Badenhop Webb to see what a really bad line from your ace might look like.

Bonafacio's was an inside the park job - and the guy was flying.

Maybe it gives Maybin some motivation though - not a bad thing IMO.

He has had oblique problems before to start seasons - so I will be waiting to see what the rabid NY press corpss digs up.

But to be honest - CC owners should have seen this one coming - CC historically sucks on Opening Day.

I managed to draft Bonifacio onto one of my teams (online championship team), but of course benched him this week and probably missed out on his best day of the year.

On the bright side, I did manage to start Lee and Cook on my teams (Cook on two of them)....sighhhh.

The pitchers managed to change...but WAS must have felt there was a "glitch in the Matrix" when they trotted a relieved out, and both F. Lopez and T. Clark homered yet again!

Ryan, you don't really think big leaguers, even young ones think that way any more, do you?

It sounds great, and may have applied back in the day, but c'mon, these guys are taking that big red wagon to the bank every 15 days...THAT, is the motivational tool.

I do wish you were right though.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
Hey - he made his manager and all the guys who picked him up yesterday look like genius' today.

But the facts remain that so far in his albeit brief career

He has proven to be a hacker. He has not shown the ability to get on base consistently or draw the walk. He strikes out entirely too often for a leadoff man. He has racked up more than twice as many K's than bb's in his career. His ST numbers indicate much the same. So the question is when they start throwing him junk, will he adjust?? We'll see. For now I'll stick with my previous prediction. That said, 30 Sb's would appear to be his basement projection there.
Emilio Bonafacio's last two games 1-11 with 7 K's. On the year it's 11 K's against 1 BB. That's who this guy is. If it wasn't for Milledge's defense he wouldn't even have the homer or the triple. Too bad you can't sell high in the NFBC - guys still going to have value - but he'll be hitting 8th by the End of April -
