Here are the opening OVER/UNDER lines for the upcoming season. (Courtesy of Vegas Watch)...

Anyone factor this into forecasting the win/save totals of their targeted pitchers?

I don't Lance but I sure think betting the Padres and Royals under is like taking candy from a baby. Those teams are putrid!

I'm thinking "if the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays get such a lofty win total from mopping up non-divisional opponents...maybe the Orioles can too...those guys aren't getting ALL their wins vs. Baltimore!" :D :D :D

I have a funny feeling Baltimore goes over.

hard heads- btw betting the worst teams "under" and the best teams "over" are the 2 biggest sucker bets they have in this format. we all "know" they are bad- but how bad is 71 wins? write those down and put them in your pocket. pull it out in october. my guess? 1/2 right and vegas wins.

Another one that looks like a solid bet is Florida over 81.

They won 87 last year, and are pretty much the same team with more experience for the younger players.

That old baseball saying..."every team will win 60 and every team will lose 60"...it's what they do in those other 40 games that will win or lose your bet.

thanks, makes sense. think the last time i was paying attention was back when the yanks were winning 100 . just read an article about the angels beating the number pretty easily the last 3-4 years.

As a Pirates fan, I will take the Pirates UNDER 71.

They almost always find a way to lose 100 or more. :(

Pitching and hitting are atrocious!

Pitching and hitting are atrocious! Surprisingly Billy, the Pirates have only lost 100+ games TWICE (1985 and 2001) since 1954.

However, your point remains valid -- average of 66 wins the last 5 years, and not a single winning season since the NLCS days of 1990-92.

My condolences!

[/QUOTE]Really?

I knew about the 18 straight losing seasons, and I could have sworn about 1/2 of them were 100+ loss seasons.

I guess like most Pirate fans I totally lose interest by the All Star break, and just assume they will keep losing. :(

Thoughts? I am a Stros die hard and there is just no way you could lose if you bet the Under 77.

I like all three of those you selected but The stros won't sniff 72 in that division with their complete lack of depth and holes all over the place.

I agree with Houston under. Outside of Pittsburgh i think Cinn and Chi are a notch above and Milw and St Louis are much better.

Best bets:

OVER

San Diego 71

Atlanta 86.5

Los Angeles 84

St Louis 88

UNDER

Florida 81

Houston 77

Cincinnati 78

Odds prop bet - San Diego more wins than Florida.

agree with kj on most. given the consensus; i bet houston is already minus 130 or so on 77 wins. these seem so easy in football- until the season starts. with houston it just seems that they have no way out of the room. no minor league studs, few breakout candidates etc. padres look a lot better to me than most people think.
