I'm trying to evaluate Santana in a mixed league that allows 4 keepers from your previous year's roster for the next season. I have seen an array of rankings regarding Santana. Where would you rank Santana as a 2004 starting pitcher in a mixed Roto League where pitching points are based on wins, strike-outs, ERA, WHIP and saves?

I would rate Santana as being the 10-15th best starting pitcher since he will be in their rotation the entire season after the Twins finallly figured out he's was their best starting pitcher.

The Twins offensively should be the same, or slightly better, than last season. The bullpen will be slightly weaker.

Santana is an interesting fantasy player. If he was to start 30-32 games this year he MIGHT be a top 20 starter. BUT, I doubt he'll finish the year in the top 30. Here's my reasons. If you don't agree, please fire back.

1) He had a bone chip removed from his elbow after the season. Spring training stats should tell us if he's not fully recovered. My worry level = 7 out of 10

2) Even though he shouldn't, he might get pulled from the starting rotation. Worry level = 5 out of 10

3) After the All-Star break, he threw 86.1 innings and gave up 12 homeruns. This is an alarming rate. Worry level = 6 out of 10

Santana is a classic case of "buyer beware"

Uh... I'll be sure to post my cheat sheets and player rankings for you some other time. Err, like the day after the draft.

I'm sure asking advice here on the message boards, when $100,000 is on the line and everyone is investing over $1,000 just to draft a team is going to net you some really good answers.

While I'm on the topic - what do you all think, Mike Maroth going to win 20 this year for Detroit?

Dyv I actually asked one of my staff members this last week. He responded with Maroth getting double digit wins in 2004....dare I say 15! I know you're thinking about taking him late in the draft. But be warned, another owner might snatch him first. Don't wait!!!

Careful there Iowa, these guys are full of B.S. You take what you see here with a grain of salt, believe 1% of what you read here and in addition, .5 of that 1% is wrong.

2) He responded with Maroth getting double digit wins in 2004....dare I say 15!

-----> Maroth had 9 wins last year. Is ten wins unachievable?

Gordon, Nothing personal at all. It is just very unlikely that folks on this site are going to give away their position by giving honest replies on player evaluations.

I agree - it's never personal for me. What I find odd is that you said these guys are full of BS, and then when I ask you what specifically was BS about my posts....you backtrack. It's all in fun, and I'd like to see your reply. Please post by Tuesday. Thanks.

I think what "bs" people are referring to are the pumping/dumping of a player so people who read the posts take it to heart. So basically, trying to pump someone up so they may be taken a round or 2 higher than they should and would push a better player down or dump on a player so they might drop a round or 2 later, but you really like them.

There are people who ask about players, pros and cons and some poeple actually give true advice. (IE- a bolstered OF line will help this RB, new passing scheme would help this WR. Sorry for he football reference, but it was easier). These are things I find out myself and to have someone post this info and some guy who doesn't know what he is doing (and yes, there will be people who are out of thier league in this event) or too lazy to do the work actually get useful info without doing the work. That is alot of problems I have seen in the past.

This is supposed to be "The Best", do your own homework, this isn't ESPN, this isn't Yahoo. Do teams exchange managerial or front office information? Hell no. Why should it be done here. We are here for the money and teh better rpespared owner will have the better chance to win.

Vegas$, I could not have said it better myself, thanks! When there is big money involved can anyone out there really expect to get help from the rest of the group? You get back what you put into it. I am not saying that there will not be some honest advice but I also know that there will be some not so honest advice.

It's not Maroth's likely 10-12 wins that's the issue... it's the 'other' stats that concern me.

Everyone better show up with some idea of what's going on with players, but I'll be damned if anyone should read my post and consider me to be pumping up Mike Maroth as a legitimate pitcher!

I specifically chose him because he's not somebody I'm eyeballing as a sleeper and it didn't bother me to bring his name into 'the public eye' ;)

Good luck, I heard the other day that Michigan is posting a new law... if you get pulled over by a cop, they issue Tiger's tickets as a penalty. If you get pulled over a 2nd time, they make you go. If you get pulled over a 3rd time, they make you go and you can't have any alcohol.

I mean... 'Yeah Fernando Vina, our savior!'

Oh yes I'm taking Super Stud Mike Maruth ( whatever ) in the first round....and stay away from that ify Johan Santana....he's likely to get benched....and I'm NOT simply putting out a bunch of propaganda, these are my honest to goodness opinions, because I want to help somebody else win the $ 100,000

ok, now I can uncross my fingers

I would think that people tell the truth here is "about 50/50...but there's only a 10% chance of that." ---George Kennedy (Naked Gun)

I've heard Danny Ainge might be trying on pinstripes in the near future. He was briefly a 3rd sacker for Toronto....and he needs a place to hide from the Celtics fans who'd love to thank Mr. Ainge for the wonderful jobs he's doing as the Celtics GM

Danny Ainge...there's a sleeper

I'm gonna draft Jeter REAL HIGH...he's not over-rated and fading....he really is as good as Nomar....Yep, I'm taking Jeter real high...so don't bother Yankees fans....he's gone

Derek Jeter - there's a sleeper
