Who Let The Dogs Out?

Post by Tom Kessenich » Sun Apr 10, 2005 1:15 pm

So we have one week in the books and I'm wondering who are the dogs who are killing your team so far? We all have at least 1 or 2 of them, don't we? I'll start with three of mine in my main (NL-only auction) league:

Nomar Garciaparra: I loved Nomar as a value pick heading into the season and I still think he's going to have a big year. But man does he look absolutely lost at the plate.

Greg Maddux: This guy's a future Hall of Famer? The pathetic thing is his putrid outing today against the Brewers actually lowered his ERA.

Geoff Jenkins: Speaking of the Brewers, they're off to a great start despite the fact Jenkins looks like complete garbage at the plate. I got him for a good price and now I know why. Ugh.

So who are your dogs so far?

Between my two teams, I have a whole pound:

From Mariano and his WHIP killing performance to Most of my offense in my LV2 Mixed 650 league. Check this out:

Albert Pujols 1B .250 2 0 2 1

Tony Womack 2B .167 3 0 0 1

Scott Rolen 3B .125 3 0 1 0

Nomar Garciaparra SS .174 3 0 3 0

Eric Byrnes OF .214 2 1 3 1

Jay Gibbons OF .214 2 0 0 0

Manny Ramirez OF .188 3 0 2 0

Tike Redman OF .133 1 1 2 0

Preston Wilson OF .200 4 1 4 0

Note that Pat Burrell has hit more RBI than all my OF combined (12)

All the pitching meltdowns have been crazy, everyone seems to be getting lite up (except Lieber on my team)

At this rate, I will have a 6.00 era with a 1.7 whip with Pat Burrell and Xavier Nady outscoring my entire offense!

Fortunately, however, I hope this first week will soon fad into a distant memory as my team remembers how to play...

Lets See...

For starters Nomar has been a Great Dane. The biggest dog of them all. OH and there is that Hafner clogging up my utility spot. T Walker goes down but Burke steps in. We will see. Belhorn is all right but I can't watch him play, those strike outs are maddening. He is on pace for 300. V Martinez and V Wells can't hit there way out of a paper bag right now. So much for those 30 steals Vernon. B.J Ryan and Mota zero saves. The list goes on and on. The beauty of it all I am ranked around 100 and 4th or 5th in my league and of course we have played only 6 games. With time on my side watch out when my guys get going.

My big dogs are Rolen and Renteria. Sure doesn't help when they were my number 1 and 2 picks. Together they are 9 for 52 (0.173), 4 runs, 5 RBI's and nothing else. Thank goodness it is early.

Molina (the Yadier version) is also hurting. I did not expect the second coming of Bench, but I did expect him to a least be on the proper side of the "Uecker Line".

Frustrating is also seeing your pitchings staff after nine starts with only two wins. And I haven't gotten hung up in the home run derby's that have been going on (yet). In nine starts, my SP's have a 2.596 ERA, with a 1.154 WHIP. I should have at least two or three more wins.

YADIER MOLINA gets 1st base hit today Needless to say thought he would have at least 3 singles 1 run 1 rbi He along with Ibanez thought I would have a 295 average All else is going ok Though I am praying for Rays to dump Sanchez so I can get Gathright in all season

Yadier Molina can't be a dog in the same sense as these other guys - I thought the point of this thread was to discuss major stars who you wouldn't expect to be such a big disapointment - like Pujolis or Rolen

King of Queens, I think that Rolen was a solid pick at 14. Obviously every person in baseball was available except for the previous 13 (first round for Chicago 2 was pretty normal...no huge surprises). Renteria at number 17 was definetly me leading with my heart and playing a hunch (most leagues had him late second round, early third). But still, with the exception of the last couple of days, he has been a decided disappointment no matter what the round. Hopefully he is coming around and will be out of the "dog house". Now, if he could just get Rolen rolling.

Gentlemen, I have thome, ordonez and rowand that are all homerless, stolen baseless and are hitting the ball as far as alex sanchez. They might as well be bunting.

PW, I could care less about what y'all say to each other. However, if you do it on a public forum, you can't exactly tell someone to mind their own business.

Just my opinion
