I am going out on a limb before the season begins and while the hype machines are at full speed and predict that NOBODY will go 30-30 this year.

Soriano won't get the hr's, Sizemore(yes, I drafted him) will come up short with a stint on the dl, Weeks has constant boo boo's, Guerrero won't need to run. Bay, Pujols, and ARod have maxed out on sb's. Some other player? Agree? Disagree?

A Darkhorse for sure, but its remotely possible, and I'll stress remotely, that Torri Hunter could pull it off.

Abreu comes the closest but misses by less than 5 at both ends. Please no homerun derby (I have him in a keeper league).

Next season Chris Young does it. How's that for a way in the future prediction?

Dude...take a deep look at the 30-30 guys from 1987 thru 1999...lot's of "Roid-made-men" if you asked me.

There was a five year gap of no 30-30 men pre 1987 in the NL, and a 9 year gap in the AL...and from 1987 (steroids VERY popular then...I wrote a story on it in High School 87' '88)...thru 1999 there were tons...barring 1994.

Makes me wonder how many of these SB guys are/were roid-made...seems there were quite a few consistant guys you could count on for steals...and they all suddenly can't run so fast.

Two guys who I think may not have used steroids and how they naturaly tapered off in SB per year...

Kenny Lofton...15 years SB avg...(.793) success.

2005 rate .880 (Not much drop from youth)

Rickey Henderson...25 years SB avg...(.808) success.

2003 rate 1.000

2002 rate .800

2001 rate .781 (25 for 32)...at the age of 43!!!

I know these guys were the tops in their trade...but the true basestealers did so with success even at older age...all these young guys stealing bases with ease...then the drug testing/threat comes into play...and they all get hurt/can't steal...hmmmm.

I say, give my boy Scott Podsednik some roids and keep him healthy for 162... I think he could top 10/100. Unforutately, both things ( roids and health ) will not happen in 2006.

I know I might be a "homer" by saying this, but Carl Crawford will be 30/30 this year or the next for sure.

And if they ever give Young a chance, he will approach that as well.

We have the hitters, can anyone send some pitchers down this way??

BTW, how's everyone enjoying their Orvella pick as a "sleeper closer"????? If anyone watched him play last year, they should have known he would be sleeping this year in the minors. Too young and inexperienced. Not sure what the D-Rays were thinking, besides saving money, when they sent Baez to the Dodgers.

Agree that Holiday might come close to 30/30 this year too. Doesn't bother me as he was my 3rd closer pick - I like to have a backup and so no biggy. He should be back in June / July to close hopefully... I agree on Crawford, if his wrist doesn't become a nagging issue (I hope not, I picked him in the $100k league)

ORVELLA just needs a little more seasoning in the minors, he's got the stuff to be a closer.Do you really believe that micella will close more than a month , i dont. COLOME is another young pitcher who has good stuff, within a month we will see one of these two take the closers job , and keep it. I hope it's orvella considering i have him in 2 leagues. I do have micella in one, so the early saves wont hurt.

What's up Eddie? I agree Orvella could eventually be the closer. I just still have a bad taste in my mouth from him due to what he said last year after one of the games he lost.

I can't remember the exact game, but we were winning and he came in a let the first 4 batters get on from walks and one hit. Then, again, sorry my memory is faltering, I can't remember the batters name, got up and BLASTED a 4 run homer to win the game for the visiting team. Afterword, Orvella said it was his "best pitch of the night" and he "wasn't to worried about it."

I can understand "forgeting" about the incident and moving on, but to say your best pitch, that resulted in a shot that would have left the Trop if there wasn't a roof, is downright wrong. His lack-a-daisical approach just rubs me the wrong way. At least Borowski blew a fuse when he gave up a big hit

As far as Colome, I think he needs to get the confidence back that he had when he first pitched for the Rays. He has some good stuff but tends to get down on himself when he gives up a hit or gets in a bind. Hopefully Maddon can inject some mental toughness into these guys and make them into a winner.

The same goes for Scotty K, I love his stuff, but you can see his confidence decrease with each hit or walk, his shoulders start to slump and he begins to pitch worse and worse. I too have him on ALL of my teams, as I am high on him just like you, but he definitely scares me when he starts to get in trouble.

And no, I don't envision Miceli closing for long, but I imagine people thought the same of Turnbow last year

BTW, is anybody else surprised Joey Devine was sent to the minors?? I kinda hope he stays there and they give the ball to Oscar to close the games because I picked him up last week for $1.00.

Well here's to the D-Rays winning the East and shocking the baseball world....somebody, please wake me :rolleyes:

Jason Bay probably has the best shot this year with Granderson coming close on both ends. David Wright is another good candidate.

Actually, Reggie Sanders was well on his way to 30/30 before he acquired his yearly injury.
