Rafael Furcal was carted off the field Thursday after colliding with center fielder Jason Repko while running down a pop up.

No word yet on the injury, but this can't be good. If Furcal misses the start of the season, the Dodgers could go with Wilson Valdez as their primary shortstop. Wilson Betemit would also be an option, but it's telling that he didn't play any shortstop when Furcal was out earlier this month.

Continued.....

Rafael Furcal injured his left leg in Thursday's collision with Jason Repko.

According to MLB.com, Furcal was racing into shallow center field and center fielder Jason Repko was charging for Corey Patterson's blooper when Repko slid and appeared to pin Furcal's left foot on the ground as they made contact. Furcal grabbed his left leg and rolled in pain until teammates and trainers attended to him. He had to be carted off the field.

Not the first time this year the mets have violated the policy of bringing at least some real players. They been complained about before. obviously there's no inforcement of the supposed policy.

Marty Even though this happened after Draft Day, don't you think Marty that everyone who drafted Papelbon did so with the thought that this MIGHT happen?? I mean, it was possible that the Red Sox would trade for someone like Chad Cordero, but there always was that thought that Papelbon could return to the closer role. And sure enough it happened.

Funny you mention this. This was the second time the mets have brought no starters to jupiter this spring. At least this time they brought a prospect.I think the starter rule was relaxed last year because of the WBC.The mets are just pushing it to this year.
