Nicknames have become a lost art in the 2000's. There are players who still have their monickers. Rocket, Big Papi, Big Unit are still kicking in the bigs. Nicknamers have gotten lazy, now there is ARod, O (Orlando Hudson), and Pods. Bring back the non shortened name affiliated nicknames! Donny Baseball, Teddy Ballgame, Hammerin' Hank, and The Vulcher...good stuff!

Pujols is number 282 on the player rater list, I had him a little higher on my draft list.

The winner of this years $100,000 will come from Chicago, League 2.

Past champions are in Las Vegas 2, Tampa 2, and New York 2.

75 teams have ERA's under 3, last year the lowest ERA was 3.58, 40 teams were under 4, pitchers love April.

No Chris Shelton this year? No, ARod doesen't count.

I loved it when Chris Berman did baseball on ESPN. His nicknames were classic. I still remember some of my favorites.

Jose "can you see" Cruz

Von "purple" Hayes

Jim "silhouettes on the shade" Deshais

Jeff "paper" Bagwell

Anyone remember any others?

My favorite nickname from days of yore,

Walt "no neck" Williams

I agree 100% on the "ESPN created" crappy nicknames (Other than Chris Bermans better stuff.)

These lazy asses don't want to "waste" valuable face time actually respecting a players full name, and cut syllables out. I-Rod, A-Rod, K-Rod, Dice-K...it's all about shaving time off of the broadcast.

Names I like not mentioned above...

"Doc" Halladay

"King" Felix

"Chipper" Jones

"The Big Hurt"

My own personal nicknames...some don't make much sense.

"Pumpkin Head" (Kevin Mench)

"Freddie" (As in Freddie Krugar...Julian Tavarez)

"E.T." (Mariano Rivera)

"LAAAAAAAAAAANCE" (Berkman...ha!)

Bert "Be Home" Blyleven was my favorite Berman nickname.

If there is one player in baseball that should have a nickname it should be Jose Reyes.

The "Mad Hungarian" would probably not be politically correct anymore. The "Dominican Dandy" would probably be ok though.

Yep, that Blyleven one was the best.

I had forgotten that one.

I miss Harey Carey's pronunciations. What fun it would be to hear him try and pronouce Dice K's name after a double header.

Getting back to nicknames, in College we nicknamed a teammate "Hung" because he was just that. Parents and fans thought we were calling him "Hon" short for Honey. We didn't correct them.

"He reported his wallet missing." That was what a reporter replied when asked what he thought would happen after Goodell's meetings with Pacman Jones and Chris Henry.
