Can you imagine working for this guy- does he take responsiblity for anything? I have never seen a me versus my team manager like him.



Sure it is a flawed team but come on- the manager has to take some responsiblity for a team that plays such poor fundamental baseball.

I have been watching the Cubs for a very long time, since the Duracher days. Managers have come and gone. Owners come and gone. And of course many many players have come and gone. Now I'm not saying the Cubs are a good fundamental team. In fact over the years, They never have been. With all those changes, one thing never changes. They don't play winning baseball. Not just cause they haven't won. They don't play to win. I like to say they have to hit 4 homers to score 5 runs. But in the last couple weeks, maybe it was a fluke, maybe just coincidence, but something has changed. They successfully executed a suicide squeeze. Now my memory isn't what it used to be, but I can't ever remember the Cubs doing that. I saw a hitter hit behind the runner on base. Seemingly on purpose of all things. Now you poeple that watch other teams play most of the time may not think much of that. The Whites Sox do it all the time, but I've got to tell ya. That doesn't happen on the north side. Cut off men have been hit. Ok not often, but it beats the Sosa years. I will say their base running has been possibly the worst I've ever seen. Bad even by Cub standards. I don't know if Lou is having any affect and idiotic things still are a common occurance on the field, but they do seem to be changing some and there is definately a new enthusiasm. I was at the Monday game they blew and then came back in the bottom of the 9th. Most Cub teams woould've folded. I can tell you that's what the crown expected, me included. I was happy with the hiring of Lou if for no reason other than he wouldn't let the team quit. Dusty did in the same manner as long forgotten Jimmy Marshall did many years before. They may not go anywhere, but at least there's a new sheriff in town and the team has some fire for a change. And with all that I'm sure I've given the spelling police plenty to ammunition.

There have been some real good fundamental Cubs teams, just not for awhile. When Ryno, and Grace and Dawson were the team leaders, they played to win. In recent years, when they fell out of the race they just imploded though; Dusty had been beyond awful the last few seasons. He looked lost and team slacked off.



... hopefully they can stay in it this season, they're looking good right now and playing like a team with contribution from a lot of guys. The teams that needed Sammy to hit HRs, and Prior/Wood to throw shutouts are no more; I like this group.

They're showing some fire for the first time in a long time. Grace always played to win. Usually he was by himself. Grace, Ryno and Dawson were all excellent defensive players as well as offensive. If memory serves though, none of them could bunt and hitting behind runners has always been a Cub no no. I think it's in the team charter somewhere.
