NFBC Message Boards

Don't you think it would be better for the NFBC if players like myself tell their friends in their yahoo leagues ([other leagues] about THIS great league, rather than insult your new guests?



How will the NFBC grow if you attack new guests or try and suppress their views with your bullyism?

I think the victim routine was interesting also, particularly since you've been on here talking about how NFBC players are all degenerate gamblers and that we are wasting money because it is all luck. I don't think that's going to sell it on any new members.



But, hey, buddy, why don't you come play in the Feb. 26 $250 and then we can be competitive rivals rather than verbal ones. How'd that be?

Actually, after the deadbeats in the satellite I played in last year (GLY didn't even try to sell us bibles) it'd be refreshing to have an opponent who is not a mute.

I spoke too soon. Tuesday Feb 26th is not good for me. I coach a youth basketball team on that night. I would be interested in another night, however.

BTW, thanks for calling us deadbeats.....this deadbeat had nothing to talk about due to my teams domination in that league

I know this. Dub is very good at fantasy baseball. And I went through exactly what he went through when I first joined this forum. Lots of unfair abuse, just because I hadn't entered the Main Event, I was considered "dead money". I think I did come in here a little too cocky, but I was on these boards to contribute. And was unfairly chastised.



I think if you guys give Dub a chance, he'll surprise you. I think everybody needs to check their ego at the door.



We're here to learn. As great as Shawn Childs is, you'll see his C.C. Desperados team name at the message board visitor's screen on a consistent basis. I think even he'll agree there's still much more to be learned.



With that being said, let's put our pride aside for one minute and work on beating the crap out of our opponents in our prospective leagues. It's going to be another glorious fantasy baseball season, and I for one cannot wait for Opening Day.

But I will reiterate what has been posted before. We ALL dominate our home leagues. Nothing new. When someone posts how they would do something because they really wowed them in Cleveland, the post is, shall we say, deeply discounted. Kind of like the middle aged guy walking around in his high school letterman jacket because he once scored two touchdowns in a game.



I guess folks are looking for a little respect on these boards. It isn't given. Its earned through participation. You do not get it on your first post. And until someone is in what is considered the "Bigs" for us, posts will be taken with a grain of salt. Just the way it is.



We welcome everybody and hope everyone from the on-line leagues join (especially in Orlando ). I do not recall anyone ever saying they were disappointed in the experience nor do I recall anyone saying they were going back to their local league because it was a tougher test.

I joined the Sunday night March 9th league. Not sure if it is at 5PM or 7PM as the sign up said 5pm but Tom's posting only showed openings at 7pm.



I invite all of you to come and join to see me flop on my face. Easiest $250 you ever made.

2) I thought I would struggle there too- just grab your 2nd catcher in the 30th round like half your leaguemates will do until you get used to it. Protect batting avg early to account for it. Keep in mind if you have the counting categories in good shape draft a backup catcher who plays a lot and hits for a good avg. IE Javier Valentine a few years ago.

3) Yeah that is tough but here is the thing. Everyone is in the same boat there regardless of your experience level because every league is different. However most leagues establish a rythm and you can see trends. You will see what the going price is for minor league studs and newly named closers pretty quickly. Don't be afraid to overbid for guys you like. Success in FAAB is not measured by how much you bid over the next guy. It is measured by value. If you bid 50 bucks for Jeremy Guthrie last year and next guy bid a buck who cares you got great value for 50 bucks. That took me awhile to understand.

4) That is a tough one- good luck

5) Sure the level of competition is excellent in the main and usually a lot better than local leagues in the satellites. However if you are good you are good. The only thing you can do is remind yourself of it. By that I mean if you like a deep sleeper remind yourself that someone else probably does too, don't think you are the only one who will draft and stash closers in waiting etc.



I think you missed the biggest adjustment which is how important the draft is. You have to keep your roster versatile and balanced. In your home league you can pick your 3 corner infielders in the first 5 rounds and stash away a couple of guys later and trade. Here you may be missing great value later for doing it.



As far as you Crazy- to me your boy Dub came in talked some junk and got it talked back to him. No harm no foul. You acted like a complete fool for an entire year and got what you deserved universally on these boards- which is pretty much what you said to me on a PM last week- so no victim card there. However, again yesterday I thought your questions were among the best and think you definitely get most improved analyis in the last year. Now the big question for you is do you trust your analysis fully. For example if you really think Upton is going to be that good- you take him with the 22nd pick in your coming draft and never look back. IF we are ever in the same league we may have to battle for Alex Gordon- but I still have no idea why I like him so much when I look at 2007.



Dub as far as 250 no thanks- I am already in a home league, a satellite, the champions league here, an auction, and the main event. That is 4 leagues that will take 30 minutes every Sunday each to do FAAB and with a wife, 5 month old, and a demanding job just do not have the time.

Yeah, if I do another league it will be the Gekko contest league which I am certain I will not win anyway. The date doesn't work for one thing. I will be preparing for my main event draft slot and looking at adp's then. I don't need a distraction. I am in plenty of leagues. I don't want to be in a position where everyone of my players is facing one of my players in every at bat. That detracts from the fun. This is all the time/focus I have. 3 or an offchance 4.

[/QUOTE]I agree with you on all those points. But, I don't think this is so much about a lack of respect, it's more a lack of respectfulness which are two different things.



I think this is without a doubt the best place to learn about fantasy baseball, I go to no other forum. There's nothing wrong with arguing about differences in ideas or perspective, but trashing people solely based on someone's lack of NFBC experience is like saying a minor league prospect can't play in the big leagues because they've never faced this tough of competition.



I think I definitely have an easier time on this forum now that I speak from mind instead of my ego. It took awhile for me to realize this. So give the newbies a chance to settle into this forum. You never know, you might end up with a little respect for them.

Hmmm...on edge, one of the best at what he does, and a little nuts...I think the D.D.L. equivalent in baseball would have been Ty Cobb. As far as ballplayers today, I have no idea.
