Jim Leyland stated that Sheffield would hit third with Cabrera hitting in the five hole after Ordonez. Tough decision for Leyland with a wealth of offensive talent.

My question's are- Does this knock Cabrera down a peg or two? What other adjustments, if any, need to be made with this information?

would this raise maggs stock some? could he bat .400 this year?

Looks like he's penalizing the new guys, Miggy and Renteria. At least he's got his catcher in the right spot this year. The better lineup would be:

Rodriguez

Knocks him down 5 slots in the first round on my numbers.



5 slots, that seems like alot to me! Maybe 1 on my board, but I think I'll leave him where he is.

I still see Cabrera getting most of his 2008 AB from the 3 hole. Sheffield is a DL trip waiting to happen.

You're right Sheep, didn't notice he'd changed his mind on Pudge. So I take it back, he doesn't have him in the right spot.



That makes it 3 for 3 for the new guys hitting lower than they should; that may be the right thing to say during Spring Training though, show some respect for the incumbents.

I don't know why you would want to move Polanco out of the 2 hole? The guy raked all year and when Sheffield was healthy last May-July, the offense was unstoppable. If Jones can hit righties and Edgar can set the table for the bottom of the lineup, look out.

Let Polanco slap away at the ball down in the order, Renteria is too good to be hitting 7th, even on this team.

I guess I am showing my bias against current MLB players who have, by and large, seen the same number of Presidents I have.



However, if I had to bet on which of two pure hitters (which I put Cabrera and Sheff in that class) would get the most of the key 3-Hole at-bats and one was in his prime (pre-prime?) and the other MUCH older/injury prone, all other things being equal, guess which one I would choose? Cabrera has averaged right at 600 AB the last four years, Sheff hasn't hit 500 AB the last two and has NEVER had 600 AB.

Does Sheffield get hurt this year while mostly dh'ing? In case Sheffield were to get hurt, why wouldn't Ordonez move into the third spot? Inquiring minds want to know!

the really big question is- will leyland be able to smoke in the dugout? in chicago it is illegal- so we plan on having him arrested and carted away to manage that prison team with bonds, clemens,rose, tejada, spiezio and the gang.

Yes. I still think Cabrera. Sheffield and Cabrera are hitters on a plain Ordonez is not (IMHO) and still Cabrera is my choice based on what I said before.



Still, it is an embarrassment of riches for Detroit.

That lineup can change throughout the season. I don't think the Opening Day lineup is something that is set in stone. Hell, Cabrera might have 150 rbi's out of that spot, we don't know. I don't think this information should knock him down even one spot in the 1st round. This guy is going to be breathing down A-rod's neck this year. Watch.

2. Placido Polanco

3. Magglio Ordonez

4. Miguel Cabrera

5. Gary Sheffield

I was wrestling with that pick when I saw Cabrera was still available. I think the safer pick would be to go with Cabrera (and I am kind of regretting that I didn't take him). I just feel strongly about Soriano this year and I think he goes for 45 homers with 35+ steals. Call it a hunch, call it Crazy intuition. Now, knowing that Soriano had to rest his quad during the offseason and he "still doesn't know if he can run" I probably should have taken Cabrera based on risk. All I can say is I had a plan to take Soriano, I wanted a power/speed combo to start my draft, and I'll stick with it. If I picked over again, I'd go with Cabrera.

they just carted soriano of the field in mesa- he ran into a wall. the cubs are having all of their outfielders practice going to the warning track hard because last year (no lie) soriano was so afraid of the wall at wrigley- he was letting fly ball drop on the warning track. hope he is ok.

cabrerra= not arod= no s bases. soriano= not a rod= no b.a. but great picks in the middle of the draft.
