How fast do you draft?

While drafting the other night I was surprised by how long people were taking with their turns. Most were over a minute!

I know who I want and I have contingencies and I have all my players pre-ranked so I can quickly survey whether a guy was dropping too far. I can check all that pretty quickly and I can usually do it during other people's turns leading to a few seconds for my picks on most occasions.

I take a lot longer in Vegas as I fiddle with my laptop, I'll say.

What about others? How long do you take and what are you doing during your turn? Nothing wrong with taking a while but I wonder what everyone's process is.

If everything goes as planned (doubtful)...I'll be calling out my player as soon as it's announced that it's my turn.

Speed up the pressure on the others.

When you are thinking you have 10 minutes until your pick...and all of a sudden 5 guys pick asap...and it's your turn...that can screw with some like it did me last year.

for me it is tougher on the computer than live. live, i draft instantly. bjoak i know you are well versed in computors and satelites but if you only do one- mdc can be a little tough to keep up with the picks. also- and i know you don't do this- but some are auto picks and it comes at you fast. also, many people just love to say how fast they pick- most times they don't win. it isn't so much knowing who i want- it is the draft flow. i just think you have to try to pay attention to that. i am trying to get better at it. guy took 6 catcher and another took satanta peavy- i would think it changes things a little. i just don't think i could say i want one of these 2-3 in every round and just draft by rote. if a guy really slides i would think you have to pounce on it. just my take

This year will be my first time doing the main for the NFBC, but in the NFFC......after a few rounds, the facilitators usually realize there isn't a need to start the clock when it's my turn.

I'm not a drafter who takes any time at all, my drafts are usually planned out, so I already know who I am taking in each round...if the player gets selected, even if it's one pick before me, I always have another player in mind.

To be honest, slow drafters annoy me, especially when we are drafting on MDC.

I'd say that I pick three-quarters of my guys in the first ten seconds and the other quarter take the whole minute.

Most rounds I either have one guy ranked significantly higher than others and I just go right to him, or I need a certain type of player so I go right there.

But, there are always a few rounds where I can't decide between a couple guys and I almost hope that someone takes one of them before it gets to me to just make my decision for me.....no one does that and I end up agonizing for a while.

I don't mind if guys use the whole minute.......I look forward to draft day for several months and as soon as it is over I want to do it again.....so I don't care if it takes an extra thirty minutes because of some slow pickers.

I do not mock draft and if I did I wouldn't tell you who I was and I certainly would not name my team BRING ME THE HEAD OF BJOAK!!!!!!!

Top 3 reasons:

1. I am okay with myself.

2. I do no write anything in all caps.

3. I do not use multiple exclamation points.

Anyone on there claiming to be me is an impostor.

It varies for me. Sometimes I know who I want and other times I struggle to make a decision. There was one year where the pace was unusually quick. For that draft, I made a conscious decision to use most of my alotted time for each pick. It was the only chance I had to control the clock, and it allowed me necessary time to catch up with marking my spreadsheets.

Fast or slow is dependent on how you organize your pre-draft. If you are a 'go with the flow' type and look to take what is given - you will use more clock after the first couple of rounds. If you have everything pre-determined with contingencies by round, then you will be fast.

What really drives me crazy is the person who takes the full time limit in the first round? How can you not know who you plan on taking in round 1?
