In my opinion, up to the eighth pick is an embarassment of riches (used to ninth until all the Pujols questions). So I am sitting in Orlando with the 7th pick in a VERY experienced league. I am thinking I will have my choice of two from the following:
J. Rollins (probably not, but a chance)
M. Holliday
M. Cabrera
C. Utley
I think I know who I will pick (and I will post my current thinking if this topic generates some comment so take notes Patrick

), but what are your thoughts?

I'd rank them this way and take whoever is left....Holliday, Rollins, Utley, Cabrera.
I think you could end up with Utley....starting with a top middle infielder is a great way to start.

Hey Wayne
Think you get Miggy there. Utley to me will go before him based position scarcity plus Miggy batting 5th though in a solid line up people become quirky with the smallest bit of info like him batting 5th instead of 3rd or clean up. I am wondering who I will have at #3. See you in Orlando

Hey Wayne; I have the 6th pick in Vegas; very happy with it; I believe I will get either Rollins or Holliday and will be happy with either; my preference would be Rollins

BTW, my KDS was set at 8,7,6,1.

Marty Hey Marty! Welcome to the sunny South. I am both glad and sad to see you in this league! It is going to be tough enough without another seasoned veteran like yourself to add to my miseries!
Number Three is another fun one. Assuming A-Rod goes first (and there is little chance in my opinion he will drop to third) you are going to get your choice of any two of Wright, Hanley or Jose. Cannot go wrong no matter what you do.
You are probably going to have even more fun setting the tone going round the corner in Round 2 and Round 3. Any hints?

Would you treat that like another Christmas?

Hey Wayne
I can live with #3. Hanley Jose or Wright. I might have to try something different to set the tone on the turn due to the competition level in our league. I had 7th in a sat league a couple of weeks ago and got Holliday there. So you never know each league and the flow of the drafts are so different. I usually have some sort of strategy planned going in but as you know you need to adjust at times. Should be fun in Orlando

The discussion of Holliday, Cabrera and Utley is interesting. How would you rank these 3 in general?

Wayne: if David Wright slips to 6th, I will be jumping for joy; I will also take Reyes at 6.

KJ,
Explain why Utley is a notch below Cabera? I would have Utley ahead in SB's and Runs, yet below in AVG and RBI's.

My rankings have Utley at 18, while the others combine for 17.
Time to toss those ADP's.

i would not draft utely in the 1st 13 picks in any league. remember- duke took rollins at 6 last year, he is very good at this ist round stuff. those #'s are very accurate. not before 14 should he be taken

I'll weigh in my thoughts now, too.
Rollins after the phenominal year is a bit overrated in my opinion (would I like him on my team...yes). It would kill me to pass by those SB's, but I would probably pass him by. I do not think he will be there at 7, though.
Utley is nothing short of great, but gets an extra kick for position scarcity. I am not sure I buy that this year (kind of a position I have taken on further review of the other positions). I could take him and smile, but there are two other players who will be offensive juggernaughts this year, so I would probably pass on Utley (we will see if I eat my words on Saturday under pressure

).
The difference in my opinion between Holliday and Cabrera is slim if any difference exists at all. Cabrera will be a BA machine (as opposed to Holliday's mere .315 to .320). Holliday will toss in 10+ more SB than Cabrera.
All else being equal, of the four, I am leaning towards Holliday as I do not think OF is as deep as it has been and the middle of the pack in all the other positions is a bit deeper to me this year.
Fun talk. None of the four is a mistake. Sort of like when you ask me if I prefer blondes, brunettes, raven-haired, or red-headed. The answer will inevitable be "Yes"!

I also have the 7th pick in a draft and am torn btw Holliday, Cabrera, Utley, and Rollins. I'd prob. go in that order right now, but my decision changes with the wind.
OF isn't as deep this year as most people traditionally like to think.

It interesting that when you talk about a player in any round but the first you discuss which round you took him in- for the first round its the pick number and not the round, as if each pick is its own round.
Would anyone be truly surprised if Howard went out and had a statistically better year than .....take your pick?
From 1 - 15 they are all awesome, just some come with less risk.

Forgetting positional scarcity for a minute, Utley will outperform Cabrera straight up this year. I expect no one to agree right now, so just wait until September.
