3 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K in a spring game constitutes being torched these days?

GG, who was the guy you were going to pick instead of Lirano?

Listen - the guy pitched against a triple a team today and got smoked.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear he suffered a "setback" and is being shelved for a while.
I'll have to look at my draft sheet to see who was my highest SP at that point. I almost don't want to look.

If you're as horrified/disappointed with that pick as you claim to be, then you know who you had ranked higher and who you should have taken in that spot.
No need for the dramatics.

I am calling BS on this Liriano crap. This is all a cry for attention of a "look at me" team. Get over yourself.

No need for the dramatics. Sorry I don't remember my draft board. I rely on my app to do the heavy lifting. Again, this isn't dramtics! My app spits out the names of players for me to consider. Too bad for me I asked for the wrong data.

I made a mistake, now I have to live with it. If u don't want to give me "attention" , don't respond to my threads. Now, get over yourself. Thanks.

As long as you aren't relying on him to be your #1 or 2, no need to worry.

Gek,
Why did you have Liriano at #35? Is that just due to health and comeback concerns or do you only think of his skills that well. I ask because I account for health seperately and though I didn't plan to draft him, he ranks as the 7th best starter for me.
Ya gotta think it has a chance to end up as your best pick of the draft rather than worst.

Ya gotta think it has a chance to end up as your best pick of the draft rather than worst. i compute everything (projections, health, misc) down to a "number". players are ranked (overall and by position). i look at the first grouping of players and consider who to choose. it's far more complex that that, but that's the best way i can summarize. you had him as the #7SP??? others are telling me not to worry. maybe i am truly off base then. i sure hope so.

I'll have to look at my draft sheet to see who was my highest SP at that point. I almost don't want to look. Just a hunch, best pitcher left might have been Jamie Shields.
I think 4 solid Liriano months will make that pick look good.
I wouldn't worry too much.
Interesting. I IM'ed you this message in December:

"This is the thing. Guys like Liriano can make or break your fantasy season. I like to take atleast one of those chances during draft because honestly, it's all or nothing with me. I want to crush the competition and the only way to do that is to take calculated risks. I think the best time to take him is an early draft.
Right now you can probably get him in the 10th round. In March if he's throwing 98 on the gun, he's a 4th rounder. It is a risky flier, but he's worth it in the 7th round if you feel you can create a good enough draft around him just in case he's not healthy enough to contribute considerably. And if he is healthy, combine him with one other ace to go with a dominant offense and it's over. First place baby!"

I know you weren't planning on taking him, but he should be pretty dominant, but might take a couple months to get there.

From what I hear he still hasn't modified the violent whip-like motion that put the stress on his elbow in the 1st place. He's either A) afraid to let go yet or B) IS attempting to change his delivery and these are the young results so far.
Just have to wait him out.

ok, i recreated the draft, and the best SP on my board according to my rankings were
Carmona 305
Snell 301
the top two players according to adp were
B.Sheets
Lirano
again, i only looked at the adp selection and not my own #'s. i believe i was on tilt from the massive SP run on these guys i earmarked.
i looked at sheets and said no. i then selected lirano without considering the players below him. my pick should have been carmona (and i did select carmona in the Super draft so i'm not blowing smoke).
rookie mistake.

From rotoworld:
"Francisco Liriano yielded three runs in three-plus innings Monday in a loss to the Marlins.
Another shaky outing for Liriano, who struck out one and walked two against a lineup that included just one true regular (left-handed hitter Mike Jacobs) and all three competitors for the starting job in center. It's obvious now that he won't be the Liriano of 2006 at the beginning of the season. The important thing is that he's healthy, but it may be at least a month before he'll be worth using in shallow mixed leagues."
Liriano will be a solid #3 or #4 SP this year, so this is nothing to be worried about. However, if you have him as your #2 SP, you'll need to upgrade.

[/QUOTE]I use valuations as well. The difference for me is that I account for health seperately. Harden is, I think, 11th but I'd never draft him. So I wasn't too keen on Liriano as he has to recover and stay healthy, but he has the skills of the #7 pitcher.
Carmona (3.75ish ERA, lacking K's) and Snell (all K's, no wins) rank pretty poorly compared to their rounds so I think you actually did better with this pick. Healthy and mediocre doesn't really play better in the 7th round than high upside/downside.

I had Francisco Liriano ranked #36 at starting pitcher, taking everything (ability, health, team, etc) into account. It was unlikely that I would get him because someone else would likely take a chance on him earlier than me. Liriano actually lasted into the 9th round in my league and was the 28th starting pitcher selected. He was getting close to the point where I would have considered rolling the dice on him. I see Liriano as a high-risk, high-reward pitcher for this season.

26th SP in LV3... way too high for me...
If he's your #2, good luck with that...
As a #3, he could be the guy that puts you in the money.
I'm happy with Peavy 2, Billingsley 8, Snell 11, O.Perez 13..

I had Liriano as the 24th best SP but would have hesitated drafting him there.
The Twins are going very slowly with him and yes they are trying to change his violent delivery and the way he falls off the mound. I would not get too worried yet but at the same time I think you need to wait deeper into the season to get value from him.
