I read in MLB.com today that if he gets sent down, it's a money decision. He wouldn't be arbitration eligible until 2014, rather than 2013, if they wait until May to bring him up. This could be a $15M month for the cash starved Rays.
Its always all about the money.

I read that the Rays players are saying they all want him to stay with the club.
It seems like a tough decision for management. Keep the extra year for Longoria, or risk alienating players who are excited about a talented team.

Heck, I'd contribute 10 bucks to the Rays just so he can start providing stats for my team.

Dateline Tampa - March 24.
Faithful fantasy owners of Evan Longoria gathered here this evening to demonstrate their support for the rookie third bagger. In a candlelight ceremony, the supporters were hoping to change the decision made by brain-challenged Rays ownership to send Longoria to the minors.
In a sixties-style protest, the crowd joined hands, swayed back and forth singing "All we are saying is give Ev a chance."
The event concluded with attendees marching down Main Street in two columns chanting "We are pushing for Longoria, Longoria, Longoria"
The only incident requiring police intervention happened when Willy Aybar recognized one of the Longoria supporters to be his spouse.

Then Cowboy Joe woke up from his dream and said, "The Tampa Bay area has a MLB baseball team??"
Us fans and the Rays players care, but it isn't like when the Bucs let Lynch go..or anything like that. Heck, I can't even talk about the Rays where I work.....maybe once they start winning this season, the fans will come out and support the team.

I think I heard this in a movie,
"If you play him, they (the fans)will come"

Never expect a rookie on a bad, cheap team to start the year in the majors... the Rays don't think they're goin anywhere, so why waste a year of Longoria in their organization just to start him in the majors this year? If he were on the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Tigers, Indians, etc.. totally different story.
