To me Jake Peavy is the best pitcher in Baseball but 2 sleepers are on a gut feeling:



1) John Lester (With what this kid has gone through I think he proves to the world he was that 1st RD a few years back.



2) John Danks (If he keeps his WHIP down a lefty in that league should do well.



3) Everyone has Cueto, and I agree



Closer:



1) brian Wilson: This kid is lights out



2) Soria :Impressive in a tough division.

Ild go with

1 Zach Greinke 13 wins 160 k's era 3.22 whip 1.25

2 Ervin Santana 15 wins 175 k's

3 Kevin Slowey 12 wins 140 k's pinpoint control



closers

1 Soria 23 years old

2 Wilson 26 years old

These are my favorite young closers also

How about Corpas just 25 and just got paid.

Eddie, wow, those are some big time numbers for Greinke, I really like him this year but those numbers almost make him a stud



I like the Santana numbers, he has approached those before and if he can get his head into it, he could end up one of the best value picks of any draft



I think Corpas is the best of the young closer to put up #1 closer numbers



I also like Sonnanstine, if TB can play defense behind him this year, he also has pinpoint control and can post 13 wins, 150 k's, a sub 4 era and 1.2 whip

Greinke probably has the potential if his head stays in the game.



Danks, maybe in another venue, not Comiskey.



Wilson doing that well, even being effective all season as a closer - would surprise me.

Bobby J nice call on Sonnanstine, he came up late in the vegas auction and i went 4 or 5 but someone got him at 6 dollars.He has some great minor league strike out numbers.I have one AL auction left and a mix league, ild get him yet.

Yeah im high on Greinke and have him in two of the 5 leagues im in so far.He was lights out in september and finally putting his live together.

Big things from the Greinke this year, just really cant project wins.

The word 'sleepers' should be put to a permanant rest.

Starter: Sonnanstine. 15 Ws out of Westbrook in the 27th would be considered 'sleeper' territory also, I think.



Closer: Shields. KRod and LAA seem at an impasse, so not that unlikely that Shields is closing by mid Summer.

It is incredibly unlikely that Shields will ever close again.

Ian Kennedy

(I have 13 plus wins for him - Keeps the ball down and is always around the plate-low era and whip to boot-k's will be average around 125)



Wandy Rodriguez

(I have 13 plus wins for him also-Good offensive lineup just has to keep Astros close to get him those 13 wins- bonus 150 plus k's-era and whip suspect though)



Relief Pitchers



Alan Embree

(I see Street and Blanton gone by the trade deadline)



Tom Gordon

(I see Lidge not making it a full season)

4 sleeper saves sources.



Harden (he would be great and maybe could stay healthy for like 2 months)it may take a trade.



Andrew Brown OAK- Just has that kind of stuff. has made big strides with his control and is just overpowering when on. Former uber prospect.



If Street goes down or gets traded 1 of these 2 guys should get a look over Santiago Cassilla.



Dan Wheeler- I mean all thats in front of him is Percival and Al Reyes. Will be saving games in June. Darkhorse for saves in TB is Garza.



Lastly Denny Bautista (DET)- I mean if Todd Jones goes down he is the only guy there. Keeps the ball down, strikes guys out, has harnessed his control. It could happen. Another former uber prospect.



Some SP sleepers.

Wil Ledezma. is it me or has this guy been around since like 1996? Hes only 25. He's a southpaw, he can crank it up, great ballpark SD, Great bullpen, could be good.



Anthony Reyes- All right so I own him so I'm biased but the kid has skills. It might happen this year.



Luke Hochevar- GB machine with k ability. Will find his way into the rotation and stick. track this guy. Think a half season of Gil Meche once he makes the rotation.



Those are some dudes that I'm watching.

Jake Westbrook - Has looked good this spring and pitched well down the stretch last year



A Pettite - Not that he will dominate, but he could be good for 16-17 W's.



Joel Hanrahan - Has anyone looked at his K/BB ratio? Now with Patterson gone he could get a nod in the rotation



RP's



Kobyashi/Rafy Perez - one of these guys will close in Cleveland when Borowski loeses the job in May, and they love Betancourt as the set up man



H Street - Could be the games best closer if healthy

I'd consider taking a guy like Jake Westbrook (can be had 7 rds later) over Dontrelle. You give up 40ks but I like the chances that Westbrook will give you a better ERA and WHIP and an equal amount of wins. Also, if Dontrelle is the #5 starter, I guess there's the possibility that he could be skipped in the rotation.



I'll throw out a different pick for closer although not a sleeper:

T Jones - risky yes, but with Rodney's injury, his job is pretty secure right now.



Starter:

1. Sonnanstine (been on my list for awhile now but everyone is on to him by now)



Deep sleeper:

D McGhee once he gets the call up to the majors

Starter Jered Weaver now Angels #1 SP will revert to old numbers Spring training though not a great gage but he has been un-hittable. 18 wins 3.45 era 1.18 whip 188 k's His 2006 #;were:

123 IP 105 K's 11 wins 2.56 ERA 1.03 whip Now healthy, focused,and with agreat line up. CY young sleeper. Only 26 years old.



Reliever Matt Capps No competition at the position. If Pirate pitchers Snell, Gorzo, Maholm, and Duke actually pitch like they have the "potential" to, then 30-33 saves are possible.



Marty

Not very deep, but I like Huston Street for 40 saves. The A's will offset the personnel losses with health and prospects and be as good as last year with better pitching than hitting on his team. Recipe for saves. He also has some of the best stuff of any closer. If he gets traded he just ends up on an even better team.



I like AJ Burnett to be the AL Cy Young. He will put it all together when he can re-up at the end of the year.

Capps and Street are considered sleepers? Damn, it really is time to put that term out to pasture.

A sleeper to me is any player who will outperform his draft slot. Give me another term and I'll use that instead. I don't know why there has to be a semantic debate about this every two days. If Street gets 40 saves and AJ Burnett is the Cy Young, they will be outperforming where they were taken, no?

To me, a sleeper is someone like Peter Moylan -- a player about whom you've heard very little discussion, yet if things break right could pay huge dividends.

KJ or anyone else please give me the correct term for the definition I stated above so that I can stop using 'sleeper' so incorrectly.

Or maybe you don't, in which case I am still waiting to hear the correct term so I will know it in the future. The purpose of this and similar threads is to find sleepers. You don't just proclaim it and then it becomes truth. We see if it becomes correct over the course of the season.
