John Smoltz was scratched from his scheduled start Friday because of tightness in his right shoulder.

Smoltz also gave up five runs in the final inning of his spring debut last week, but the Braves have yet to reveal further details about his status.

That is the risk of a "Crusty Dusty"

He's a vet battling shoulder tightness. Maybe less risky than an injury riddled younger pitcher coming back from TJ surgery.

Smoltz first felt the tightness earlier in the week and still felt the discomfort early Friday. UGH!!!!

Smoltz hopes to start Wednesday against the Nationals. But if he experiences more problems, his status for the start of the season could be in doubt.

too bad these MB didn't have a minimum age requirement. :D

I don't think anyone who drafted Smoltz expected 35 starts. I think everyone expected a few missed starts and hopefully that's all this is.

We'll see.

With Lackey out for the year, ooops, till mid may and his teammate out till at least may and now this, I'm sure teams are scrambling.

If people weren't expecting 35 or so starts, why did he consistently get drafted so high?

Because he produces very nicely in the 32ish he does make.
