Thoughts on my Strategy?
Home League
10-Team, Mixed 5x5, 12 Hitters/8 Pitchers/3 Bench
170 Games Started Limit for Pitchers
Daily Transactions
I went extremely hitter heavy.
My pitching is the question mark:
Liriano
Sheets
Harden
Gallardo
Hoffman
Soriano
Capps
Gagne
My thoughts were that I could pitch 4 closers all season and rotate one of my non-starting pitchers to the bench and pick up any starting pitcher for the day. This way I'd reach my 170 Start Limit ASAP. When I hit 170 (hopefully I'd hit it first amongst the other owners) I'd then drop all my starters and throw either MR's or CL's with good ratios. I figured since the penetration rate of the MLB pitchers was so shallow that I could more easily fix my pitchers and pick up decent guys to sub for my "daily pitcher". By throwing so many relievers with good ratios I thought I could afford to take the ratio hit with my "extra daily starters".
Any thoughts? Could this work? The goal is to win SV's, hopefully place Top 3 in ERA/WHIP, and to finish in the middle or better in K and W. Not sure how it's going to play out though.
Pitchers still available to be picked up:
Kennedy
Gorzelanny
Baker
Bush
Prior
Volquez
Cueto
Parra
Kuroda
Guthrie
Saunders
Sonnenstine
Greinke
Marcum
Someone in that group is going to be pretty good this year...and they'll be on my team as soon as I add some guys to the DL - I'm sure it won't be long until then.

I'm sure a lot of replies will be Cueto, but there are at least five pitchers on that list that I would take before him.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Agree Dan...and I started "pimping" him months ago.
I would actually take some of those guys over the ones already rostered.
Eli, what O did you assemble?

Agree on Greinke. What, again, is "penetration rate"? What really irritates me about Shandler's jargon is that it isn't even elitist. It is only specific to those who follow him exclusively rather than any sabermetric type or whatever. It reminds me of mistakes I made in high school at any rate.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

I've already put Gallardo on my DL so maybe I will pick up Greinke!
Offense:
C McCann
1B D. Lee
2B Phillips
3B Gordon
SS Reyes
OF C. Young
OF Hamilton
OF Pence
OF Hunter
MI Hardy
CI Blalock/Laroche
DH Ortiz
According to some projections it's not a very good offense. According to others it will dominate 4 out of 5 offensive categories. In this particular league I don't think projections mean much. If one of my sophomores pull up lame or someone under performs I'll dump them quick and pick up Josh Willingham or someone else like that.

bjoak: I had no idea that "Penetration Rate" was one of Shandler's terms? I'm not sure how else you would even say it...
"I figured since the penetration rate of the MLB pitchers was so shallow..."
"I figured since the number of major league pitchers rostered in my league was not very many compared to the number of major league pitchers who will actually pitch..."
One is more succinct than the other.
I don't follow Shandler or anyone in particular. Is there a better term for "Penetration Rate"?

Agree with Eddie, I would pick up Greinke to replace Gallardo. Sonnanstine and Kennedy look appealing as well.
You offense looks good, minus BA....but it's a 10 team league, so I'm guessing most O's look good on paper.
I'm sure you be fine with what you have....always guys available on the wire.

Yeah, my BA isn't very strong.
Personally, I don't think the other teams offenses are that attractive, but what do I know. Although, the other teams pitchers sure do look a lot "healthier" than mine.
