Bad news for Beltre owners

I got him at 7.12 in my first satellite, and thought it was GREAT value. No bother, I have Andy Laroche backing him up!

Adrian Beltre said Monday that he plans to play through pain despite a wrist injury that hasn't improved since last season.

Beltre has been diagnosed with a torn ligament, but didn't find out until December and decided against surgery. Beltre is hitting .326 this spring, but has just one homer and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer speculates that the injury could sap some of his power. "It hurts to hold the bat, it hurts every time," Beltre said. "There's always pain."

From Rick Wilton....

Where does Beltre stand now? After the injury in June, he hit 17 homers in 402 at-bats for a 23.6 AB per HR ratio. Before the hand injury, it was an almost identical 21.4. He answered the question last season that he can play with the ailment. Reportedly, the ligament has healed and the hand pain he feels now is scar tissue that will need to be cleaned up after the season. He will have to play with pain but that is nothing new for Beltre. He has consistently played with pain in his left ankle due to bone spurs. From 2002-2006, he played in 156-158 games and last season saw that number drop to 149 due to the thumb ailment. In other words, he is in the lineup every day. The fact his AB/HR rate was roughly the same before and after the injury tells us he can and will function with it.
