When we look back which player will be the biggest draft day steal?



Pedro in the 9th will be the biggest steal IMHO.

I am probably in the minority, but I think where Broussard was going will be a good steal for many folks where they were able to draft him. Left handed hitters with decent power strokes handed full time at-bats in that ball park could pay some sweet dividends. Time will tell.

I am hoping Milledge at 17.1 is the biggest steal of the Main Events

Wayne, I thought that a few months ago, about Broussard, but not now. Unless he actually plays in the OF, which it looks unlikely, Botts and Mench are going to steal AB's from him at 1B.



I really like him as a SLEEPER , but had to move away due to those other guys. Time will tell, but I hope you are wrong because you did get him really late

Pedro will be a five or six inning pitcher, with an average bullpen, and in the ninth round that's not very good value.



I also like Melky Cabrera going where he is at. A ninth hitter now in a great lineup, but leading off when Damon doesen't play, which could be a lot of games.

Of course, bias applies, I own both Broussard and Cabrera.

Josh Hamilton, usually going around the 5th round or so could be a Mark Teixeira type of talent...

Chris Young the SP, going in the 7th/8th round could easily be a top 3 SP...

Pedro in the 9th will be the biggest steal IMHO. Dub- I thought I liked Pedro a lot this year. My thought is the 145k's will be offset by a tremendous whip ,but you really love him. I would never have picked him before round 11 much less round 9.



I think the biggest steal pick this year will be Tony Pena. I think you very easily could get a Jose Valverde type year out of this cat. Please watch a video of Brandon Lyon pitch before arguing with me........ To me Qualls and Cruz are bigger threats to him getting 30 saves than Lyon.

Srictly a biased answer here. Jered Weaver in 12th or higher will be one of the top 5 SPs in AL. He will have similar numbers to some of the SPs taken in first 8 rounds. Blalock will also be a great value pick. I do not have him, I think Wayne grabbed him in Orlando 1. Kerry Wood stands out as well.

Marty Every League I was in March, he went before the 10th round.

[/QUOTE]I actually told Greg to get him as a reserve for the NL labr league. I don't think he even gave it a second thought. I wanted him in Vegas on my NL team, but he wasn't a deal anymore. I think Greg Morgan paid $7-$9 for him.

The obvious answer here is Pujols where he was drafted by those who took the risk. I did not.



While he is no guarantee to stay healthy, if he does, it seems he will be the steal.



Other than that I agree with the folks who stated Broussard and Kerry Wood, although Wood too also has to stay healthy.



What I don't get is why is no one bringing up Gerald Laird? Granted he is not a monster talent, but every one of us knew that Saltamacchia was being sent down and yet Saltamacchia continually went 15 rounds higher than Laird. This seems like a huge oversight and could hurt many teams.

This seems like a huge oversight and could hurt many teams. I got Laird in 29- ask me June 1st whether I got a bargain or a trendy pick that just killed my batting avg. At least my other catcher is David Ross so I should be fine in batting avg overall.

I have a hard time seeing how he is a great value pick from the mid-1st to mid-2nd where he was taken.



On Salty and Laird, I agree Laird looks like decent value, but his hold on the job may not last all season; that risk probably knocks him down to about fair value. Salty on the other hand, I think the reason he went early is that at least 1-2 in each draft didn't really understand that he was likely to be sent down, and all it takes is 1 for him to get drafted way ahead of where he should've gone. He'll be a FA in a lot of lges after this week.

I loved TULO this year...but he went in the 2nd round.



Watch out for CANO...he's the 2nd best hitter in NYY!

I wouldn't get too enamored with Velez just yet. He can't field and it's arguable if he'll be able to hit well enough. There is a reason they picked up Jose Castillo.

It's a tough pick. Right now I'd have to go with Wood and Accardo. They were both picked late, Wood in the 20's and Accardo in the late teens.

I agree with patrick (GodLovesYou) on Broussard... If he was going to be a good player we would know by now.



How about JD Drew a late middle round pick in most leagues and Jose Guillen same thing... I think these to guys will have very nice years for where they were drafted.

[/QUOTE]velez was definitely on my radar as i'm an avid giants fan and work for them as security. obviously, his stock has skyrocketed now that the opportunity is there but he would've emerged at some point regardless because durham and vizquel are over the hill and frandsen just isn't very good. As for the best values this year, I too am biased towards players on my roster, but they're on my roster because of it, not vice-versa. Phil Hughes will emerge as the ace of the bronx bombers. In my opinion, this guy was and still is the best of last year's 4 hyped pitching phenoms . I rank my hometown fave lincecum no 2, and then gallardo, followed by bailey, who i knew would be a bust last yr. homer is unjustifiably cocky and doesn't have the right attitude to achieve success in the bigs despite his lively heater and plus curve. Hughes is the best blend of raw talent, command, and mound presence/savvy and hell, he pitches for the yanks. he's a dedicated student of the game and i fully expect him to finish as a top 20-25 pitcher this season. All the hype is on Joba because of his electric stuff, but he's far behind Hughes in the other facets of pitching success. Also, i think Jered Weaver is a great value and will be the ace for a contending Angels club. After his outstanding spring, i'm sure many ppl agree. he was going high in all of my drafts. As for hitters, i think a pair of old, veteran sluggers will be values this year - Sheffield and Giambi. Sheffield bats 3rd in more than likely, the best lineup in baseball. He has a proven track record, so really the only concern is his durability and lack of position eligibility. I'm banking on him gaining outfield eligibility during interleague play, and i think there's a chance he gains it prior to that. Giambi has had a great spring and it has practically been assured of plenty of time at 1b, so i think he's a great upside pick in the late rounds. Finally, i think Willy Taveras will outperform expectations leading off for the Rockies this yr. 300 avg, 100+ runs, 45 sb

[/QUOTE]Actually, I followed him from last season.. his SB numbers and age and opportunity on that old team jumped out at me... I was quietly keeping my eye on him.
