Jack's Flash - Game On!!!

Post by Jackstraw » Fri May 02, 2008 5:59 pm

The score the way I see it is this:

Eligibility Rule Amendment - George vs. the World

(I ain't giving up yet ;) )

FA Pool Rule Amendment - Dead Even in Votes

Here's something to dwell on. This is an n-person non-zero-sum cooperative game with an arbiter. The book I dove into today was "Games and Decisions" by Luce and Raiffa, available at Barnes & Noble or some bookstore near you. A quick breakdown in layman's terms:

n-person - As many people as you want; in our case n=390

non-zero-sum - There is no way that everyone can win

cooperative game - There are rules that everyone agrees to going in

an arbiter - In short, it is the NFBC or I guess Greg if you need a face to put on it

After digging through the game theory on this type of game, there is no way in heck that I'm voting for Ralph Nader :D

Game on!

For anyone that wants to keep the rule on the FA pool the way it is, then tell me how drafting someone like an Adenhart or Scherzer helps you to win the overall event? I can see how it helps win an individual league. But how does it help you to win the overall event?

The FAAB$ argument just doesn't add up. I've run it through my head a million times today, and I just don't get it. The FAAB$ in the individual leagues of the Main are independent of each other. They are just individual economies of scale that form the mechanism for adjusting your roster. That's all. Comparing a league's FAAB$ that has a unique player to a league's without that player is apples to oranges.

Every league has the same player pool prior to the draft. Once the draft begins, who is available to you from your next pick right thru the end of the season is 100% dependent on which players are taken by every other owner. No two leagues available player pool will be alike once the draft starts. This is a flaw. The same player pool from the draft should be available through the season. It creates an imbalance that the scoring mechanism of the overall event does not compensate for.

So, if Scherzer is taken in LV3 and not in NY3, you're saying that it's an advantage for me in LV3 because if he's dropped I could add him cheaply? Well, what if he isn't dropped? Doesn't that mean I now am at a disadvantage because he won't be available to be picked up at all? No, because you had the chance to draft him.

Suppose the rule is changed such that if he's dropped he can't be picked up until added to the 25-man roster. If that's the case, then in scenario (a) in which he isn't dropped, I am at a disadvantage because I can't get him at any price, and in scenario (b) I get no advantage because if he is dropped I have to pay just as much as everyone else. Exactly how is that fair ... as the rule stands is can be either an advantage or a disadvatage to me if Scherzer is drafted in my lge (dependent on whether or not he is dropped)Correct, but if the rule is changed it only can be a disadvantageIncorrect, because you had a chance to draft him. And if its a disadvantage for one lge, that logically suggests a relative advantage for other lges where he is not drafted By your rationale then the lack of advantage or disadvantage is relative to the rest of the leagues not having either an advantage or disadvantage.

Oooh, I feel good tonight!
