Jack's Flash - The Challenge

whhhhhhooooooossssssshhhhhhh --- Thud!

I’d like to start back where I left off. Quahogs caught a flaw in my FAAB strategy that I’ve been thinking about and researching. I also took it to a higher level and got some opinions on what constituted offense and defense. I’m going to get back to that later.

Right now, let’s discuss something else: messageboard comments centering on “You suck” as an argument.

First, if that’s the best argument you can come up with, don’t use it here. Find somewhere else for your grafitti. I don’t own the thread, but I start it. I would prefer that it contain some rational and logical discussion of topics. If you don’t agree, then let’s debate it. It’s easy. I’m here for the same reason that everyone else is – to have fun and maybe win some money.

Second, there is no real system here for ranking who are the best owners overall and who “qualifies” to be able to post on the messageboard. For those of you who think that some people are “unqualified” to post their ideas, well then present your criteria so we know who should post and who shouldn't.

Lastly, if you want to challenge my credibility in posting, then just plan on competing against me in any league where you see my name. I have no fear… I may lose, but I won’t back down. Gekko, the dishonest answer to the question is how do I make sure I know where you are going to be next year so that I can figure out how to put me and you in the same league together. If you doubt me, just look at the two satellites we’re in together. If that’s not enough, then take the Jackstraw Challenge mid-season-style :D

Here’s my proposition:

Mid-Season Jackstraw Challenge League

a) 15 team Mixed League live auction draft (or 12/13 team AL or NL-only if preferred by participants)

b) NFBC rules

c) Pay Top 3 payout structure

d) Entry Fee – tbd

e) Stats starting after All-Star Break or Mathis format (determined by participants)

Here are the tough points. I want it to be live, not a computer draft. We could do a snake draft, but I’d prefer an auction. Hence, that is why I want it to be live. A couple of people via telephone would be okay, but I think it is better if we all got together. Since I prefer that people who hang around the messageboards to play, it gives us a good chance to actually meet some of the people that we chat with and/or criticize. Maybe if we see the real person we’re responding to, we would be much less likely to criticize. Besides, a live auction is simply the most fun you can have with your clothes on! We can make arrangements between all of the people who agree to play. I’m pretty flexible and I have a free plane ticket.

The next tough point is that I want this to be about competition and fun. I suggest we discuss what the entry fee should be and then commit half of all winnings to some charity of the winner’s choice. We just need to set the actual bring-home purse to cover the expenses of whoever the overall winner is. Who knows, maybe we can find a sponsor or two. If Greg approves then maybe he could help organize a place to do it at. Maybe he could help us find a way to sweeten it all up since most of the money would be given to charity. Maybe we get NBC to film and do a little documentary… Who knows.

I think it would be a lot of fun to meet everyone and kick it for a day doing a live auction. Live auctions are almost worth the money alone. Maybe it will help to relieve some of the tension that builds up in here. And we get one more shot at practicing our live drafting skills before the NFFC or next year’s NFBC.

Best of all, we do it for a good cause so that money isn’t the object of winning.

Any thoughts? Greg, I’m not talking about collusion so you can post in here too if you like
