In another thread, Fudd cast aspersions ( ;) ) at those of us who purchased the expensive services of Jeff Clement, now gainfully employed carrying Jose Vidro's jock strap.

Not wanting to hijack that thread, I wanted to put this out to the groups since no one is starting Clement, but no one has dropped him either:

Clement just hit his third HR since being sent back to Tacoma and has a 1263 OPS there (thank you to our newest, bestest friend Rotoworld). I know Vidro is a Hall-of-Fame talent ( ) at least in the minds of the Mariner management, but how long before Clement comes back up or is he on the AAAA All-Star Team?

Is there anyone from Seattle in this contest/contributing to this message board or are they all out there handing out the "I Hate Bush" bumper stickers and "Believe in Barack Hussein Obama" buttons?

whoa- edward be carefull! fudd, btw hasn't figured out that in the league he is in he can pick up anybody, anytime- so guys come cheaper many times. i paid big bucks for clement- not because i needed him as 2 of my competitors are " catcher weak" and if he gets catcher eligible in july and goes on a tear- it could be big. he has to come back up soon- or a trade or signing of a real dh.

Just what the F do you think is going to be out there ? You think a team that bails in July is just going to puke up his starters to the fa pool ? Come back in August with your $800 and go to town ! B.Wilkerson for $155 and B.Schneider for $87 are on me

First, in our league, you still have $677 left to our $582, so neither of us are saving it. The guys in our league are pretty damed good, wouldn't you agree? I know our league is a speck on your A, because you are in position right now for the gold (#14) and are obviously a great player. After you play with me a few years, you'll have a little more respect for the asses point of view I don't want to say you are buried in our little league, but you are buried and I didn't see you spend a huge chuck of your budget on Jeff Clemente? ;)

Just win the 100k and I'll fly to New York so you can buy me beer! FUDD
The Kimo and NFBC FA structure is VASTLY different. Having an open door FA policy totally changes who to target and how much to spend.

Scherzer and Clement (in the kimo) were pickup up a few weeks before they really hit the promotion wire. You cant TOUCH these guys in the NFBC until they're in the majors. Now everyone has a shot. Hence the high bids if you want them. You MUST exercise the gaskets, FUDD :D

I go all out in every league I'm in. The kimo has some very good players in there. Yourself included. Am I buried ? LOL.. I don't know, it's kind of like May 23rd  . I'm really not that worried. Still like the team structure. If it doesnt shake out then it doesnt shake out. I lost to good players. Not the 1st time won't be the last.

I was a Clement buyer and I started him him over G Anderson (.400 3HR 10 RBI) the first week after grabbing him. I drafted my second Catcher in the 30th round and I am currently starting Schneider. That roster spot has been a swinging door Iannetta- Schneider-Olivo-Schneider (again). My thought was that Clement would outperform revolving door FREE AGENT catcher of week at my weakest offensive position once he quailified at Catcher. I still believe that Vidro should be out as DH for the Mariners, and with Johjima catching most of the games that Clement will return and get most of the DH AB's. I currently have no plans to drop Clement and would only do so if they signed a DH (say Barry Bonds), as I expect him return to bigs, catch in another 6 games over a three week period and out hit about 25 other starting catchers over the second half. It seemed that he had just started figuring out ML pitching when they sent him down. I beleive few free agent hitters are worth a triple digit bid, but in Clements' case I was willing to make an exception.

My last years winning team that won fairly easily had Buck and Polino as catchers, so I guess I subscribe to the Shandler theory of taking catchers late. ;)
It works both ways. Teams have won or placed high in the NFBC with great catchers and bad catchers. Just looking at Sheep's footer and seeing his top 6 picks in the main event, I wonder if he's lacking power...if so, I think Clement was definitely worth the risk. Clement could add 10 HRs alone from that 1 position (i.e. if the other catcher was Schneider) from July forward. It's all about filling a need without sacrificing too much in other areas. Clement as a 2nd catcher would do just that over Schneider if he's catcher eligible by July. A risk - most definitely but you've got to pick and choose your battles when trying to win a NFBC main event league, let alone 100K.
