Satellite Leagues - Testing new methods?

Post by Head 2 Head » Mon Sep 29, 2008 10:01 am

I played in 5 leagues this past season and failed to get any return on investment in any of my leagues. I put too many of the same bad eggs (Bonderman, Rich Hill & R. Sorinao) on most of my rosters. However, I would like to emphasis the thought process behind two of my Sat's: In one I went against Shandlers advice (See God Loves You signature) about waiting on catchers and took Martin & Mauer as my second and third round picks (contra conventional thinking), in another knowing that my pitching evaluation is awful (see above) I attempted a Santana start. As I said, I didn't win money with either and thus I don't feel that either draft method is something I will try next year, but in both cases I don't think it was these "style" players that were my downfall but their teammates.

The Martin/Mauer team ended up chasing Speed and Power at the expense of BA in the form of Weeks and Andrew Jones. The Santana start also caused me to chase similar production (Chris Young & Weeks) again at the loss of BA. The issue to me, seems to be that when you leave the first three rounds without a solid BA and 75/75 hr/sb (Traditional take hitters early) you end up chasing those stats at the expense of other catagories.

Was the Sat's a place that you tried something different or did you just do your normal style?
