Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I would very much be interested in your opinion of Baldelli. Too early? Way too early? Injury prone like Griffey? Or just had bad luck? Where do you think he should go?

I had Baldelli on my list of 5 to pick at 7-9. In fact, at the top of my list based on my desire to fill an OF slot with a potential 25/25 player. My only problem with Baldelli is his Walk rate which could stand improvement. Along with Rios, I believe Baldelli is ready to become an elite fantasy property.
Those of you who are drafting near the "turns" have to reach a little to get some of the players you target. That is why in a 15 man draft ADP means little to me without VAM(variance about the mean). Maybe it would have looked better if you had waited 'til 7-2!!!

I think the issue with Baldelli is his health. I wouldn't write him on my roster in ink. At least his skills didn't seem to fade as was the concern last year.

Jason Giambi and I'll follow Vander's reach of Baldelli with my own TB reach of Delmon Young.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Vander,
Baldelli has great potential that has been robbed by injury. That (injury risk) was my main reason for having him later. I actually had him as around the 14th or 15th round (say the fourth outfielder on your team taken), so that shows you how much a player can be valued differently.
You cannot win this thing without taking the chance/risk. Some of us had Soriano late second round last year and then mainly because he was a stud at a weak position. And look what that did for us! I generally try to be risk averse in the first ten rounds but usually talk myself into some gambles. Last year it was Prior! Ain't I the bright one.
So...I guess I will take my risk pick now...Chipper Jones! How about that for a homey pick!

Thanks for the Baldelli opinion. I had C. Jones last year and while I expect he'll never play in 150 games again (and that's high) I think he belongs here. he did his part to help me win last year. He really hits when he plays.

I did my best to see if he was taken but I don't see him. I am guilty of calling out previously drafted plaers no matter where I play.

Well, so much for the list of 5!! After seeing Rolen,Jones,Giambi,Swisher and Baldelli go bye the bye...I had to replenish my list of 5. Only to see Helton and Smoltz go and the kicker my super-secret Round 8 picks of Philips and D. Young all disappear. That was a brutal stretch for me. But, plenty of talent still to be had. Hmmmm,do I take the 35y.o. OF coming off the career year(by far) or the 28 y.o. OF who broke out this past year...OK, I'll take Michael Cuddyer at 7-9. I'll pass on Ibanez for now..

Ibanez was gold last year. I got him as my third or fourth outfielder, expecting his rock solid steady 80-20-80-.280. The rest was gravy and helped me do well in HR and RBI last year.
