You learn more from bad picks than good- here are what I see as the worst picks. No offense- if you think mine are the worst put a reason out there I would love to listen to them.
Round 1- Abreu- hello horse beaten till it is dead. runner up Ichiro in round one. Really just as bad IMO
Round 2-Dye- this one is tougher to find a bad one and Dan I respect the hell out of you but everything points to a career year in my book.
Round 3- T Hunter absolute worst pick in this draft IMO, if the other 14 guys are honest most would still have him on their draft boards not ready to take even yet.
Round 4- Hard to find a bad one- but I actually think my pick may be the worst. If not I would go Putz, has to show it to me again to go round 4.
Round 5- F Cordero IMO put a guy at the end of the 1st closer run who should be at the start of the next run of closers 2 rounds later.
Round 6-Adam Laroche 2nd worst pick of the draft, if you need a 1b that bad go Fielder. Very little evidence to support those numbers get better.

Just my opinions for what there worth. I know Santana is the best pitcher out there and will go in the first round in almost all drafts, but I won't take a pitcher that high period. Having said that it might be slightly early for Abreu and Manny as has been discussed. Round 2 I no longer rate M. Young that high. Not enough power or speed. Average alone won't do it. round 3 Agreed on T. Hunter, I also won't take any catcher that high this year. round 4 Due to injury risk I wouldn't take Guillen that high. Good player when he plays, but he's missed a lot of time in his career and that seems to follow a player for whatever reason. Round 5 My pick of Cordero was worst. Wish I could have it back. Think he's ok, just picked too early. Round 6 Saito and Lidge. Both could be out of job real early. Saito might not even start with the job. Lidge could bounce back, but is a big risk now. Just my foolish opinions for what their worth.

totally agree- although even though abrue gets beaten up- it is more because he falls to second round- and can be picked there. the figgens pick perplexed me- you have crawford- it just seems like a bad pairing. neither guy hit 100 in runs and they are poor in other 3 categories.

Vander, you don't have M Young ranked lower second. Where would you put him? You said 'to high" for just average. He is also a 100rbi, 100 run guy. 18-23hr, 100rbi, 100+runs, 8-10sb, 315-325 average middle infielder - where do you rank that production? In the mock, I had Soriano 1st pick, hopefully a 35 - 35 guy. Wanted to offset his lower average with high at bat, low risk, high average guy. Young also filled middle slot. Give me some feedback guys!

It does make more sense in combination with Soriano. I did not see that. I know most have Young higher than I do and I'm in the minority here. I over value hr and sb early. They're harder to get later, and impossible to get in faab. Average can be had as well as someone who gets either Runs or rbi's. Usually not both. I'm not saying Young is a bad player. He just doesn't get enough of what I'm looking for. I have him ranked as the last pick of the 3rd round. Most others will disagree and that's fine. That's what makes this fun. I have Young in a retention league and have no complaints. He is a safe pick and I agree with what some others have said. All early picks should be as safe as possible. You can reach late. Just don't do it early. Certainly a point in Young's favor. Didn't mean to offend. Just my opinion.

By the way, I have Tejada in the 3rd round too. For the same reasons. A little higher than Young though cause he has a bit more power.

Young in an interesting guy for 07- he is a guy I thought was 1st round material in 06 and I was wrong. I think late 2nd/early 3rd for Young. I value Young a pretty good bit over Tejada. Again just a personal preference.

I, myself agree with Chesty on Young/Tejeda AND that some draft picks come about because of previous or targeted picks. Also, this is a mock, so what strategy is being used? I, for one, am not choosing one particular player just to see where/when he goes. Everyone has strategies, etc., problem is, if all were right - we'd have 15 teams tied for 1st!!

I don't like starting from the 9 hole and was wondering if anyone else felt similarly toward their Draft position. Also, where would people like to start? As for me, I'd like 1-3 or 11-13.

I picked the 2nd spot becaue I thought it was the worst possible position. After 10 rounds it probably doesn't matter, however I don't like how some players are falling early and think the 2 spot is a definate disadvantage. I would prefer 15, 14, 13, 12 if possible. For the strategy I want to employ and where the players I like are falling, the end of the draft works for me. Since I didn't get any position I wanted in 2006 (I picked 4th which I considered the worst spot of 2006 and the stats prove that out). I found it pays to practice everywhere so your prepared for whatever you get. As pointed out, it's a mock and doesn't count. You get to learn and experiment for free.

Most of the risks, gamble, and too-early picks have been called out. In looking at my draft, I am not sure I would pick Reyes again in the first. His SB/R/AVG will be great, but I don't see him in the high teens in HR nor really getting close to 80 RBI again. But the main thing I do not like about that pick is SS appears to be deep. You really could do a lot worse at any position than have a M. Young or a M. Tejada on your roster. And their are still a couple of solid SS still left to be picked.
I hear what you are saying about Putz in the fourth, Chest. I had him in that spot as my second choice behind Ryan. The main reason was it looks like his role is moderately safe and even as a MR, he was posting good K numbers per IP. A risk maybe, but a reasonable one for sure.
Based on what I am seeing, I think my preference is going to be a middle draft pick (6-10).

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

My problem is that I feel like a ping-pong ball every round or that may just be the hang-over from seeing so many of my targeted guys fall between 6-7 and 7-9. I was fairly happy through 5 rounds, though the Dunn pick was more of a match of Power/OF rather than "best player available". Obviously, Cordero on round 6 was a reactionary pick on the tail of the Closer run. I'm not a big believer in "Punting" categories. This Mock has already been somewhat illuminating and promises to be even more so as we venture along. It's been fun so far. Good fodder for the Lessons Learned file.
