7.11, D. Matsuzaka, BOS, SP
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

To all- Happy Holidays! I will be out of town w/o access to email until Thursday. Please feel free to make picks for me.

Chest- I drink Japanese beer (Asahi), in case you were wondering. It is a tough find on tap, but I think they have it somewhere in Vegas. :D

Now back on subject- which is actually an interesting subject. The Reds have no leadoff hitter and no centerfielder which a guy like Dusty would love to plug Freel and Hopper in to. Scary thought IMO- do you bite the bullet defensively and go Bruce or Junior in Center. Do you try and move Votto for pitching and play Dunn at first and make centerfield more about defense? To me that is the best approach- does a package highlighted by Votto and handsome Homer net you 2 years of Bedard?
I am too busy studying baseball stats to actually show up for a meeting, let alone act smart at the ones I go to. ;) There was this one funny guy a couple of years back that cracked a joke at my expense, but he is collecting unemployment these days. A free lesson to all, the HR guy may be an idiot, but he can really improve/screw with your upward mobility more than you would think.

At the moment, I am thinking Freel in center/leadoff. Follow that with Phillips, Griffey, Dunn and Encarnacion, Votto and Keppinger. I could also see Phillips lead off followed by Votto later in the season, thus sliding Bruce into the 6 spot. With Freel and Griffey being injury prone, Bruce will be playing by early May, if not April. The trade suggestion for Bedard is an outstanding idea, but I think the O's want more.

Merry Christmas!

Well we certainly share something in common about the studying stats part Neal-

I gave a talk a few weeks ago- great question from an accounting student. What is the best part and worst part about being CFO- My initial gut reaction was to say worst part is having to listen to a bunch of IT geeks and have no idea what they are saying. Best part is being able to tell HR to kiss my rear end because they work for me now.

O's and Reds trade makes a lot of sense to me. That division is wide open and Cincy should move while they can.

I am thinking Freel in center/leadoff.

Reds sign Mike Cameron. Freel can play all 3 outfield spots plus 2B/3B makes him a very valauble bench player.
in case anyone missed it, the astros have a much improved lineup this year. i expect berkman and c.lee (Asumijet's 2nd rounder) to provide good (if not great) value this year. h.pence is being drafted a little too early for my tastes though.

Sorry guys- Headhunters I think that may have been a little harsh at the guy- besides a man love for Jay Bruce beyond words guy seems pretty bright to me.

How about Helton-

Dak I did not get my holiday invite over to help you and your 12 cats decorate your festivus tree. I can only imagine how long the airing of grievancces would take with you in the room. You would like to challenge ole Chest to a feat of strength would'nt ya?
