Am I good enough to play in the NFBC? Here is my mock draft that I just completed. I picked #10 in a 15 team league. Mock draft central predicted a 6th place finish.

It really depends who you picked against. If it was against a bunch of the dummy teams mdc throws out there, your team should really end up looking well above average.

I think you did just fine except round one- why Tex who I like that early- at pick 10 a Crawford, Soriano, Howard, or Miggy Cabrera makes a lot more sense to me.

I took Tex over Howard because I think they will put up similar numbers but Tex will deliver a higher average. I passed on Soriano and Crawford because the differences in HR and RBI will not equal the benefits of their SB so I put more value on Tex. I was also planning to pick up Figgins to give me SB and average and I may have reached for him at #3 but I think he was worth it. That is my reasoning.

You can get Atkins with 3rd round pick so getting Crawford, and Atkins in 1 and 3 seems better than Tex and Figgins. But its really personal preference. no doubt Beltran at #2 was the right pick

Looks to me like you have plenty of knowledge to join the NFBC - come down to Vegas, meet the folks and Greg will buy you a beer or three....

Before ever looking at your team I would say yes. Just because some of us have been here before and SOUND like we know what we are doing doesn't mean we really do!

you are putting a lot of faith in YOUNG SP. usually the hype is better than the actual production for young'ns.

The problem was that I wanted to hold off on starting pitching but still get an ACE but things did not go as well as I would have hoped. There got to be a pitching run in round 4 and I did not want to jump in at that point. Here is what transpired on the SP front:



2.1 - Santana

2.5 - Peavy

3.6 - Bedard

4.4 - Webb

4.5 - Beckett

4.6 - I took Papelbon - wanted a top notch closer

4.7 - Lackey

4.12 - Hamel

4.13 - Sabathia

Since I took Figgins at 3 and Papelbon at 4 I figured I needed more hitting before I went SP. That is my logic and I am sticking to it.



The way I see it, drafts are like life, you have to give up something to get something. As they they taught me in economics class, it is all about opportunity cost.

I think I saw where Mock Draft Central is going to sell the draft avg picks and related info from the satellite leagues? If so I would suggest buying it- it will give you a lot better sense of where folks should go than these mocks which IMO are worthless and dangerous if you get too confident that certain guys will for sure still be there at certain spots.



Overall a nice start still not sure I agree with your Tex and Figgins to Crawford and Atkins logic but that would be splitting hairs at this point. You seem to have a fine grasp on how you have to think to win in this contest.

I agree with Rockwell; don't put too much stock in these early mock drafts; it depends on the level of your competition. In other words, don't thin the team you mock drafted will be the team you get when you draft for real. I also agree with the guy who wondered why Tex at 10? Sign up for Vegas, the experience is so much greater than a mock draft.

luny (frank here); while not one of the experts in the art of the mock draft, i can't see why that team wouldn't have a shot; so guys are surprised at the teix pick...so what? it goes against the grain, but what if he's a fave of yours and/or you expect that his career year looms? if you don't pick him under those circumstances, you're a sheep...mock, crock...have fun...you can always borrow from sack
