Tim:

Looks like the Cardinals weren't the only squad having a good week! The CDM connection continues to roll along.

Congrats STUDS, nice job!

Congratulations Tim (aka DIAMOND STUDS in the CDM community) for the top spot of the 11th scoring period!

It is nice to see Cubby Derrek Lee helping out the team along with Wainwright and Molina.

Congrats again, Tom

Tim Stephens Is Week 11 Online Championship Winner

Post by Tom Kessenich » Tue Jun 23, 2009 2:29 am

Tim Stephens and his wife are spending a little time enjoying a vacation this week with their two children. Stephens hasn’t lost touch with the NFBC, but there are, understandably, priorities coming first this week.

So when he got a phone call on Monday from friend and fellow NFBC participant Mike Quackenbush congratulating him on his big week, he was taken aback. He had no idea how well his team had done in the Online Championship last week.

When the week was over, his team had done well. Very well.

Derek Lee (.364-4-9), Alexei Ramirez (.364-3-7), Shin-Shoo Choo (.364-1-3-2) and Yadier Molina (.440-1-4) led the way at the plate as Stephens’ team paced the Online Championship field with 4,893 points. Adam Wainwright and Clayton Kershaw combined for three wins and 26 strikeouts while Andrew Bailey and Matt Lindstrom combined for five saves to lead the pitching staff.

“I've only been able to sneak a glance at scores and my e-mail every once in awhile but it was nice to learn my Online team had a decent week,” Stephens said. “I have several players who have been underperforming all year and hopefully this will be the start of something good.

“I've been waiting all year for David Wright, Vladimir Guerrero, and Derek Lee to start showing some power and at least for a week one of them did.”

Stephens needed the big week because Lindy Hinkleman made another run at the top spot. Hinkleman finished second last week as his bid for a fourth first-place weekly finish in our two events was denied.

“He's having a spectacular year in both the Main Event and in the Online game that I almost feel bad for denying him a fourth weekly title,” Stephens said. “Almost.”

Stephens is part of the CDM/Fanball group that meets in Las Vegas every March and also plays in the Main Event.

“This is the first year I've been able to make it out (to Las Vegas) since 2003 but I'm proud to represent in Week 11,” he said. “Our bunch doesn't ever feel the need to toot our own horns like some of the more vocal NFBC players do. But you won't find a better, more-knowledgeable group of baseball fans than ours.”
