30 Teams...30 Things

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed Feb 27, 2013 3:36 pm

Here's a little statistical note for a player or players on every team in Major League Baseball...

Arizona-
I get a kick out of these spring training broadcasters who downplay home runs because they are hitting these dingers in 'the desert air'.
In that desert air last year, Miguel Montero had just four home runs at home last year.

Atlanta-
One of my favorite stats uncovered. Craig Kimbrel struck out half the hitters faced last year. Not just half the outs recorded, half the hitters faced, K'd.

Baltimore-
Chris Davis is thought by many not to keep up the .270 average he maintained last year.
Possibly, but the power is real...and consistent.
Davis did not have a month last year without hitting at least four homers in a month.

Boston-
Jonny Gomes has hit at least one home run against each of the A.L. East teams over the last three years....except one.
Boston.

Cubbies-
There are a lot of naysayers when talking about Carlos Marmol. They're not from folks in Cincinnati. During the last three years, Marmol is 10 of 10 in Saves vs. Cincy. Not only that, but Cincy is hitting just .106 vs. Marmol.
Marmol has an 0.47 E.R.A. vs Cincy.

White Sox-
Paul Konerko has a string of 14 years with at least 18 homers

Cincinnati-
Joey Votto did not have a homer in his final 130 at bats in 2012.

Cleveland-
So you think Carlos Santana will hit for a higher average this year?
Last year, Santana's best month for average was just .282

Colorado-
Thinking Dexter Fowler is a nice, sneaky pick?
Before thinking that, here are Fowlers career high stats over the last three years .300/84/13/53/13
Some players are sneaky BAD.

Detroit-
As good as Miguel Cabrera was last year, there is something he did not do well. Hit lefties.
Cabrera had over 150 at bats vs. lefties and only had four homers and 17 rbi.
It's a good thing he had 40/122 vs righties...

Houston-
When can peripherals be misleading?
Jordan Lyles had 23 K's in 18 innings vs. Pittsburgh last year. The only team Lyles had more k's than innings.
Lyle's record vs. Pittsburgh was 0-3 with an 8.68 E.R.A.

Kansas City-
Alex Gordon is being taken from the fourth to seventh rounds in NFBC drafts.
Imagine where he'd be if he'd of showed up during the middle of last year.
In May, June, and July last year, Gordon hit one homer and stole three bases.

Angels-
Jered Weaver gave up five homers before the All Star break.
15 after.

Dodgers-
If owning Andre Ethier this coming year, sit him in June.
During his last 300 at bats in June. He had four home runs.

Miami-
Hesitant in taking Stanton because of a probable low rbi output?
Last year, even with decent hitters in front of him, Stanton had 38 rbi on the road.
However, the runner he drove in most was Giancarlo Stanton. 21 times.

Milwaukee-
Atlanta is Ryan Braun's anti-PED.
Ryan Braun has one home run against a current Braves pitcher.
Paul Maholm. One in 85 at bats.
That home run came while Maholm threw for Pittsburgh.

Minnesota-
Mauer with no power.
Joe Mauer has three home runs against lefties over the last three years.

Mets-
If your third batter in the lineup is facing Jonathon Niese, he could be in for a long day.
Niese gave up one homer and two rbi to all third in the lineup hitters last year.

Yankees-
Nobody ever talks about Yankee pitching.
Would it surprise you to know that the Yankees pitchers had over a 3/1 k/bb ratio, best in the Majors?
They did.

Oakland-
After May, this is Yoenis Cespedes hitting line....305/60/18/61/12
Maybe Bryce Harper shouldn't be alone in moving up draft lists, eh?

Philadelphia-
Cliff Lee failed to pitch six innings just one time last year.
He had 21 quality starts. ...A lot of good that did his owners!

Pittsburgh-
Andrew McCutchen hit .371 through July, .226 afterwards.

San Diego-
If Chase Headley had kept his April- July average, he would have finished the year with 18 homers and 78 rbi and fantasy anonymity.
Instead, he finished with 31/115 and a third rouns choice

San Francisco-
Six different Giants relievers had a Save last year.

St. Louis-
In the last three years, Matt Holliday only has 26 at bats at Coors.
Six of those balls left the ball park.

Seattle-
Maybe the fences being moved in will help him...
Jesus Montero hit .367 @ Texas, .360 @LAA, bit just .227 in his own ball park

Tampa-
David Price had 13 road victories last season.
Only 32 pitchers in baseball could even say they won 13 games...PERIOD

Texas-
Did you draft Matt Harrison hoping for more K's this year?
You may be barking up the wrong pitcher.
Harrison never had over seven k's in any one game last year.

Toronto-
This is just strange.
Rajai Davis had 13 hits against Baltimore and not one stolen base.
Davis only had seven hits vs the White Sox, yet matched that number with seven stolen bases.

Washington-
If it weren't for the St. Louis Cardinals rude treatment of Jordan Zimmerman last year, Zimmerman would have had a 2,57 ERA, one of the top 5 in baseball.
As it was, Zimmerman's E.R.A. finished close to three, at 2.94
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
