We Sweat the Small Stuff

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sun May 19, 2013 8:04 am

Sometimes, it may seem like we pile on Greg.
Or STATS.
Or STATS IT team.
It seems that way, but we don't.
Every time Greg announces a new fix or a new feature, inevitably there are the 'That's Great! Now if THIS can be fixed, it'd be great' replies.
On the outside, it may look like we're badgering or picking nits, but really, for the best contest and most amount of money in a contest, folks just want everything right.
It's also human nature for players to just want more.

My personal beefs are having 'free agents' listed under 'Stats'.
That's stupid. Free agents are the heartbeat of transactions and that is where they should be listed.

It also galls me that the traditional method of having our middle infielder and corner infielder on our rosters is not with the other infielders, but misplaced between outfielders and Utility.

Also, we should be able to move ALL free agent selections up and down. Sometimes, I change my mind for the player on top, why not make it just as easy to move him as the rest of the players?

Others feel it is the 0% shown for free agents or the minimum shown first, instead of the maximum, which is the way it should be.

These are all small things. But, we're not like that book. We do sweat the small stuff.

Getting phone aps and trying to fix 'live scoring' is fine. They are large feathers in the hat, and the source of 'That's Great, but' replies.
I'd like to see these small things fixed first. Because they're not small things. They're just things that we should take for granted in being right. They are something that most other sites already have right. We live with them because we know the drill, but new customers or players see it as a failing when comparing us to the sites they came from.

I've been told that these IT teams will work on the 'newest thing'. For instance, if STATS is starting a fantasy soccer league (just the thought of that makes me queazy) they pull all their IT guys from whatever they're doing and work on the new venture.
If true, it's wrong.
STATS should have a fellow that knows baseball and tech to fix things requested. Moving in swarms to the next big thing leaves every other sport in the cold.
Hopefully, that's not the way it works.

To me, I think the way we approach getting things done through IT is backwards. It seems they work on the big things first, while the small things are put on hold.
It's time to take care of the small things. They are the things we see from day to day that give us that little dark cloud over our heads. And we have enough of those dark clouds just watching our players :)
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
