Re: A List of Names
hopefully for next year, gregg and tom can make an auto two for the 1st and 15th picks. possibley even and auto two for anyone who may need to use it.
Re: A List of Names
A new draft room, so that could be a possibility.
It would also be nice to have dashes and percentage signs be used in chat.

Re: A List of Names
It has come to my attention that this thread has hurt somebody. This was not the intention of this thread.
In my mind, I thought it would be a small place where some could check in and 'know' that drafters were slow or uncommunicative.
I knew in starting this that there would be land mines. And still think that there is a place for 'a list'.
But, it has to be done in a different manner.
There has to be a way to gather more information in a drafters tardiness or uncommunicativeness than just the opinions of one or even two drafters.
'The List' was/is a good idea. It just needs improvement.
Until I can find a way to do it better without somebody getting hurt, it is better just to shut it down, re-think it,and improve it for next year.
Thanks to all who helped with the list.
The names of good drafters remains and I will keep adding to that....
Thanks all.

Re: A List of Names
A thread to single out "slow drafters" (in a slow draft) by name? And someone is "hurt"?
Shocking.

Re: A List of Names
There have been several folks who have PM'ed me and e-mailed me supporting the list. I appreciate that.
I think it is a good idea too. But, there has to be a different way of going about this.
The list is not meant to hurt or embarrass an NFBC member. More so, it is supposed to be of help to drafters wanting to avoid drafters that are habitually late or uncommunicative.
Unfortunately, it is hard to have one without affecting the other. Maybe next year, a better resolution can be offered.
Until then, if a drafter is like described above, give Greg a call or e-mail. He'll be more than happy to talk to that drafter.

Re: A List of Names
Someone was actually hurt by this? The only way to make this list is by being inconsiderate and lack communication to other owners. This isn't because people are slow. We all have lives and other things going on. It's those who are inconsiderate without letting the other league owners know they have to do something or don't apologize for taking forever. We are in an SD right now where the guy is deliberately taking his time just to piss off other owners. Guys like that make the list. So if you are upset you are on the list, well look in the mirror because chances are you earned your spot.

Re: A List of Names
I'm compiling my own list this year for reference in December.
I'm picking second in a draft right now. I made my pick in round 20. The guy right after me with the back to back picks is online. He takes the time to criticize my pick and is now just letting his clock run. Two and half hours burned so far and he's got another 13.5 to piss away if he likes.
I'm on auto one and getting ready for my express draft. I still use auto one and notify people when I'm going to be offline, but strictly out of a sense of irony at this point.

I think a 'personal list' is a great idea.Yah Mule wrote:I'm compiling my own list this year for reference in December.

I also am of the mind that a public list can be done too. It just has to have some kind of guideline that I was not using originally.
Draft Championship drafts are super popular. They have effectively replaced Mock drafts. At the same time, they can be better.
Personal speed is the number one complaint.
Everybody wants to go at a certain speed. Where the rifts start, is that they want other drafters to go at their personal speed as well.
I see no reason why we just sign up for the next Draft Championship. Signing randomly, without even a sense of speed of other drafters over an eight hour span invites and leads to frustration and argument.
The four hour clock drafts only imply that a drafter should draft more quickly. It fails in that if two or three folks take the full four hours or are 'medium drafters' they will not mesh with faster drafters.
The 'All East or West coast draft' is a fail also. Although from the same time zone, they still have different ideas in how to draft.
Categorization is needed.
Draft Championships can be offered on three levels...
Slow (one round a day or less)
Medium (two-four rounds a day)
Fast (at least 5 rounds a day)
This would prevent a lot of the bickering that goes on in these drafts. This will not end frustration and argument There will always be bickering in drafts over draft speed. It would, however, limit both frustration and argument to a high degree.
We would all enter a draft knowing what is expected of us.
A fella that has a busy life with no access at work or no access most of the day could join the slow draft and be comfortable that he is not offending others. He can be at a pace comfortable to his life style.
The medium drafter is somebody that checks in fairly regularly, but knows that sometimes he won't be available for two or three hour stretches at a time. This can be communicated to other drafters who also have the same problems at different times of the day.
The fast would be for those that look in constantly. Those that always have a window open at home or is always checking by phone.
If these changes were made, a drafter would be more 'at home' in a Draft Championship league, instead of being a square peg in a round drafters league. Also, our own needs change during drafting season. I am normally a fast drafter. But, if going on vacation or having something coming up that involves family, I may want to pick a slow or medium draft.
Besides, having a choice between three different drafts would appeal to all.
It would be a common sense change.

Re: A List of Names
A great idea Dan and 1 that was brought up last year. I think the only potential issue is enforcement. 90%-95% would likely have no issues if people lived up to their preferred choice, but what about the league(s) where a slow or medium drafter enters a fast one (by mistake or they just don't care because the likely answer is that slow and medium won't fill as quickly). Would Greg or Tom need to be on the drafter(s) daily to keep up with the pace?
Just thinking of the potential downside so that a good idea can be implemented. I think an answer to the above would go a long way to getting this considered for 2015.

Re: A List of Names
Keep the 8 hour clock but then there is also a personal clock, lets just say 32 hours. So that leaves you with at least 3 occasions where if you somehow cant get to the draft. That seems about right, for a 2 to 3 week draft. Then, to avoid time manipulation in the overnight hours, just suspend all drafts at 12am EST and whomever was on the clock at 12, goes back on the clock at the start up time with the same amount of time they had at 12am.
So you get:
8 Hours per pick
32 hours per draft
Draft suspended over night hours.
Not only would this make for faster drafts, more people would be happy AND would sign up for more drafts because they would love the experience.
How many people would really not sign up in those conditions? I would bet hardly no one and a lot of entries gained...

Re: A List of Names
I think a cumulative personal clock for each owner might be useful for shaming purposes.

Re: A List of Names
This little guy's name is Eric Bunch. He reached for Neftali Feliz in round 16(!) and when I took Joakim Soria (who is simply better) in round 20, I think I broke his brain. He's now actively cursing me out.

Re: A List of Names
Point of etiquette, everybody. When somebody is trying to surround a job by drafting everybody competing for the position, you're supposed to stand back and let them acquire all the candidates at their leisure.

I can't say for sure, but I believe I was told long ago that personal clocks would not be implemented.
I'm in a draft now, where a fella works the midnight shift. Even with clock stoppage at night, a slow draft isn't fair to him.
With the three speed approach, he can enter the slower draft and be comfortable that his hours won't prohibit the movement of his draft. The way it is set up now, he is ridiculed through no fault of his own.
Like said, this isn't THE idea for Draft Championship drafts. Just an improvement. We all have our own personal ideas in how fast a draft should move. Especially when we are one pick away and it seems as if we're staring at our monitor, waiting for the next guy to make his pick.
At the least, this would group us into drafts where we are more comfortable.

Fair point Dan. The fast, medium, slow idea is probably best to bring up again in September or October when next year's slow draft season starts. I would think it's relatively simple to create this idea by having fast, medium and slow in the signup choices, and we need to convince Greg that it's going to add to the growth of the DC format.
