'Twas the day of Draftmus, when all through the room, every drafter was stirring, some, even pondering Gekko's 'vroom, vroom!!'
Pens, paper, and computers open with care, in hopes that 'there player' would soon be there.
Jupinka, Lindy, KJ, and the Mouth answered the call. Childs, Pausma, Wayne, and Lowy, draft away, draft away all.
There was Stadtmeller, and Greenberg, Dobies, and Zola. There was Thomas, Bob Mazur, and Dave Potts with a Coca Cola.
The drafters nestled down, each snug in their chair, in hopes that the facilitator would soon be there.
Momma was home, in her kerchief, maybe doing laundry. I was in my cap, pondering Kershaw, and some other quandry.
The kids were settled down already in their beds, thoughts of adp, Votto, and 'value' crowded our heads.
When up at the Draft Boards, there arose such a clatter, I sprang up in my chair and asked the fella to my left, "Hey, what's the matter?"
He said, "The draft has started, the first pick was Trout. I looked at Drafter number two, I thought I saw him pout.
The draft picks were flowing one after the other. My queue was disappearing, there goes another and another!
On Trout, on McCutchen, on Miguel, and Giancarlo! On Goldy, Kershaw, Gomez, and Tulo!
And then, in a twinkling, the facilitator said to me, "It's your turn pick 9, who will it be?"
I stared and I stammered. I don't drink, but suddenly felt I was hammered.
"I'll take Jose Altuve!" I laughed in spite of myself. I knew that my roster had started with an elf.
The pressure was off, my first pick a capture. He was long in average and speed, not in stature.
I took a pill, something that started with 'Gastro', my stomach was turning, my first pick, seriously, was an ASTRO!
His name leapt off my page and flew away as a kite, and I heard him exclaim as he went out of sight...
"You got me, now get the other 29 right!!!!!"
